Did some digging and while there are some right leaning bands on my "I've enjoyed their music" list, none of them came as a surprise, like Leonard Skynyrd, Kid Rock, Five Finger Death Punch.

Guess self-awareness isn't equal between right and left wings. Which is maybe even illustrated by being curious about this in the first place. Or maybe I'm overgeneralizing my own experience lol.

As a left winger, I’m probably more okay with listening to a song by an artist that doesn’t represent my views as long as it’s not too crazy and I’m not actively supporting them.

Imo art has value regardless of its source.

Right wingers for some reason feel betrayed. I guess to them it’s about not crossing tribes rather than going where their inspiration takes them.

Yeah, I can relate to that.

I think another part of it is that the art itself isn't often overtly political. Maybe that even plays into the sense of betrayal because of how often the politics they support aren't ones that can be talked about openly and they feel like since they avoid saying what they are thinking, everyone else should also.

I think you're right. Rage Against the Machine apparently pissed off some conservative fans by opposing Trump.

John Dolmayan is a Trump supporter. Self-awareness doesn't have to be bipartisan.
