Life in prison. I don't care how old they are. Life in prison. This is a hate crime and terrorism plus we don't need to give ideas to the dumb fucks who live in this country...

These are little kids, I saw 8 year old?
We don't give life to little kids that commit rape or murder because, you know, they're kids, their brains haven't even fully developed and they are barely able to understand the direct implications of their actions, let alone long term. These. Are. Kids.
I'm not saying this wasn't a crime, nor that it wasn't horrible, nor that the victim didn't suffer, nor that these kids need no punishment. I'm saying that these kids more likely need help. I'd start checking where they got these ideas, I'd start interviewing their families. I'd start educating these kids on the consequences of what they did. I'd get psychological help for them.
Those actions will punish the kids, but also make them better people, and who knows, Future allies.
You just want revenge and as much as I get it, it's not helpful. An eye for an eye makes us all blind.

Edit: Yeah, I checked the article, these are children aged 8-12. I had some awful fluffing opinions at that age too, even if I never would have committed an act like this.
I'll take the down votes for this, the feeling is mutual.
The sociopathic kids who cut up neighborhood pets, inflict life long injuries on other people, burn down homes for fun, rape little girls cause voices said so, can all rot in a hole.
Anyone who cries that 'oh they didn't know better' or 'oh it's how they're raised' or any other excuse can fuck right off.
No place in society, and I'd happily throw all the fuckers who defend them in the same hole.
That kinda sanewashing of bullshit behavior is why we get the fucking shit we do.
Sociopathic cunts need to be held to account by society, and so do the parents, neighbors and friends who empower them.
I'm not excusing their behaviour. I just don't believe in punishment over rehabilitation. These are 8-12yo and I choose to believe that they aren't irredeemable or that they are incapable of learning better. If that makes me naïve then so be it, I'd rather be naïve than carry that sort of hate in my heart as well.
I don't hate them, or you. I'm being pragmatic. Them, and the people who sanewash and excuse their behavior are the enablers of this, and are inherently irredeemable.
It's kind of hilarious that you're using a term coined from discussions on defunding the police while simultaneously promoting the prison system. I'm not excusing their heinous behaviour, I just also don't believe an eight year old that hasn't come close to developing an adult level of reasoning should be put in prison for life. But whatever, keep making excuses for your disgusting opinions.

Hate crimes are born from opinions. My point was that at that age a lot of people think some awful things. I thought gay people shouldn't be able to adopt, thanks to being raised in a Catholic family. These lot committed a terrible act and that's important to acknowledge as well, but I don't think they should be jailed for life at the age of eight years old for it. I can't believe that's a controversial take?
That may be, but my point was that the call for jail was due to their “opinions” fueling an impactful crime. You said yourself, despite the awful beliefs you held at that age, you’d have never committed such an act. I think that’s an important distinction.
FWIW, I can appreciate the reasons that there is a juvenile court system in the US and agree that life without parole seems excessive based on my limited understanding of the crime and its context.
Yes, and children do highly stupid stuff without realizing long term consequences. Their brains haven't fully developed yet. It's why we don't permanently jail kids at that age, no matter what they've done

Justice exist both for victims and perpretators. So that victims can obtain sentencing of their agressors, and that agressors get a fair and impartial sentencing, taking their age into account.

This is a serious crime and they deserve to be punished accordingly. And no matter how dumb and hateful they, they're minors so a judge can't ignore their age and relevant law to set a sentence.
