If I locally to go the lemmy.world community at https://lemmy.ca/c/[email protected] I only see posts that are 4 days old. However, going to the community externally at https://lemmy.world/c/lemmyworld lets me see all the posts. For example, the post https://lemmy.world/post/241226 is missing in lemmy.ca

I dont know if this is a bug or what.

I'm not seeing any major federation issues.

Sorting by "New" on both https://lemmy.ca/c/[email protected] and https://lemmy.world/c/lemmyworld yields the same posts, however pinned posts from several days ago are still pinned on lemmy.ca and not lemmy.world. Maybe a delay in syncing the instances?

Scrolling back, I found the post you linked. Here is it via the .ca instance: https://lemmy.ca/post/724386

That post was at the top of the frontpage on lemmy.world yesterday, but I couldn't find it on the frontpage (even after some scrolling) on lemmy.ca.

The upvote count is different between the lemmy.ca post and the lemmy.world post. Could this be the reason that the post doesn't show on the front page, since lemmy.ca thinks the post isnt as popular as it actually is?

I can't confirm, but I suspect a couple of contributing factors are:

  1. The instances take some time to sync with each other
  2. Each instance may determine a different set of "top" posts since they don't have the exact same data into that "top" algorithm
