I'm sure most American tech companies also spy for the government, we just don't hear about it until we do.
For the government and for political reasons aren't the same either.
China is using the data to control populations including those in other countries, the US government is using this information to go after individuals.
Oh, so like US tech companies, namely social media platforms and increasingly "news" outlets?
We can't escape that most companies that handle, collect, and display data, no matter where they are from, are probably doing evil things with that data.
Not trying to downplay the horrible crap that Chinese companies and their government does, but it really does happen outside of China all the time.
There's still a difference between facebook pushing propaganda and the US government controlling facebook to push propaganda.
