Nice, thank you.

The author is "Mike Kuketz" and you can search for and find the diagram on his mastodon account or blogging website, which is about internet security and privacy.

Just because two platforms use the same protocol doesn't necessarily mean they federate with each other. They need to be able to understand each other.

It would be interesting if someone tested all these different platforms, to find out which ones federate. And which parts of their functionality are compatible, its almost impossible that everything works.

Except for the heading it seems to be in English, no?

Indeed, only the title and the "introduction" text under it is in German. To be able to spread this more widely it would be nice to have all in English, Spanish and so on.

I wish it would say fediverso, I hate when they anglicise Spanish.

In English it means federated + universe, nothing Spanish about it. But in Spanish its obviously called fediverso.

The only way in which fediverse would be okay is if you want to make it gender neutral, but then you have Plataformas (femenine) and protocolos (masculine) so that's clearly not the idea.

Couple of days ago the source directory where these files exist was tooted to fedi (pdf, and xcf I believe), but I can't for the life of me not find that toot anymore. Damn.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 years ago

Perseverance, and endless scrolling in my own feed. This was the original toot I saw by @kuketzblog and the creator is @imke I think (?). Final version in this toot. But that toot with the sources I still cannot find, so maybe you'd best ask the origin :)

I wish the other platforms added support for Zot.

I have read that is secure in comparison to ActivityPub.

Don't just believe everything you read :)

It is designed with more privacy in mind compared to ActivityPub, but IMHO its biggest feature is nomadic identities (meaning you can easily clone an identity on another server and change your primary address).

I am not going to reply the problematic implication of this.

I had read the technical introduction and, as far I read, it is focused in security more than in privacy.

I was just joking about the way you wrote that, no other implications meant.

Anyways... maybe we have a different understanding of security vs. privacy features, but at least to my understanding the advanced access options in zot are privacy features. Or what do you have in mind with security features of zot?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 years ago (1 children)

Encryption, signing...

Also, in the same description the protocol is very descriptive leaking more metadata as usual as far I read.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 years ago

Hmm, ok you are right. I was thinking of user-facing privacy features like making you posts & photos only accessible to subscribers etc. which is AFAIK not really possible with AP (its implementation is more of a suggestion for other servers).

Sorry about this. I didn't take it as that at all in that moment.

Plume is not currently in active development IIRC. Just so everyone is aware.
