Catan board made on cnc (midwest.social)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by [email protected] to c/woodworking

The softwood kind of fuzzed out but otherwise everything turned out pretty good after a solid sanding. I used oak for the wood tiles, birch for the sheep and wheat, and ash for the ore with various stains for each

One of the better looking Catan boards I've seen. Nice job.

Thanks, appreciate the kind words. I actually took someone elses cut patterns and modified it to have indents for roads, settlements and cities. No need to recreate the wheel

The colors work out well, too - good color wheel combinations!

Looks fantastic, the idea and craftsmanship is great. But to be completely honest, I think I would prefer actually playing on the base game. Although I don’t really play Catan that often, if you play it regularly you might be sick of the base board I guess.

The regular board falls apart when you roll dice onto it this looks much more stable

The old one, yes. The new ones have a connected water border (much like this one).

Which cnc? I want to get one but I just need a desktop one and am trying to figure out how much I want to spend.

This was made on a 3018 pro with a bed extension. It took a lot of extra cuts and time since I could only make a few tiles at a time. It's an alright starter cnc for small projects. Since then I've upgraded to a openbuild 1515

Would you recommend a 3018 pro for a beginner? I just want to do some smaller things but have a few small soft metal things. I just don’t want to spend $2,000 for a 50x50 machine when I want to try a few small things.

Shouldn't some tiles be green for sheep? I get that white could be wool/sheep but personally I'm used to seeing green.

Otherwise love it

It does look like it could use a bit more colour, maybe even the lumber tiles could be green since it's forests.

Beautiful. Which CNC did you use?

you made a catan board during consensual non-consent?
