Corruption has been legal since 1776; there's not a day in this country where things weren't corrupt, either morally or legally or what-have-you.

Yeah, I'm just reading Parenti's Democracy for the Few and it really lays out how the whole country has been bought and paid for from the start.

Way before that. It's been legal since the start of countries/empires as a concept.

I'm talking about the history of the United States in particular.

Then it's been legal since the Europeans set foot on the soil of what's now the US. Let's not kid ourselves in thinking the American revolution was about anti-tyranny. It was just about some other people wanting to be the tyrants in place of the then current tyrants.
