Ok, Furi looks sick. Others are not really for me, especially The Last of Us.
Furi is insanely good! I've never seen such a mix of genres before. The story is pretty captivating with enough left open that there are still discussions about it today. Plus the OST is killer.
What's your gripe with TLoU?
It's a Zombie game. It has a dark tone to boot, which isn't bad in on itself I just don't like the premise in this case. And from what I've seen there isn't much of a game rather it's a movie that makes you occasionally press buttons to make sure you are still paying attention. Truth be told I didn't actually play this game and I woukdn't play it if I had the chance.
Kingdom Hearts! <3
I have such a love-hate relationship with this series! I love the series as a whole but man half of the games are awful. I will never stop playing them all and enjoying them, though (':
I know what ya mean xD
I love Chrono Trigger, it is just such an amazing game, I never get bored of it. The SNES is full of classic gems
I actually have Chrono Trigger on my PC, I should play it once I'm done with Celeste and Half-Life: Blue Shift. SNES is a RPG heaven, I doubt it's better than Mother 2 tho ;)
I played this on the DS and I absolutely LOVED it. Great soundtrack c:
Dark Souls 1, I loved the atmosphere and the polished combat.
My introduction to the Souls-like genre was Hollow Kight, it didn't make a good first impression to say the least :(
Wait, you didn't enjoy Hollow Knight?
Souls-like mechanics ruined everything for me. Having only 2 checkpoints in a big map and having them both really far away from the boss isn't fun for me. I can't learn his pattern becsuse I forget whay little I have learned while trying to get back to him, having to hunt your soul just to get your stuff back is also very frustrating. I will probably play Dark Souls at one point just for the sake of being open-minded, but I am not looking forward to it at all.
Aah, I guess I can understand that! I like games that are a bit punishing, so for me those are not huge hurdles stopping me from enjoying the game. But hey, thank God we're all different :grinning face with smiling eyes:
Hollow Knight is more of a Metroidvania than a Soulslike, probably. Those terms are pretty vague though.
It is a metroidvania with souls-like elements, latter of which pretty much ruins the game.
While my personal fave is Demon Souls, They took their experience with that and pretty much improved everything with Dark Souls. Def the best of the bunch.
There are a few games/series that have a special place in my heart:
-
Kingdom Hearts (I kinda grew up with these and even though they can get kinda ridiculous, they are still special to me)
-
Chrono Trigger (Robots, dinos, swordsmen, time travel, an amazing soundtrack... it makes me so nostalgic)
-
Castlevania (the metroidvania style ones)
-
Resident Evil (more so the older ones, but the new ones aren't bad)
-
Pokemon (My favorites were Emerald, HeartGold and OmegaRuby, the latter being the last in the series I played. I also enjoyed the Mystery Dungeon ones)
-
Persona series (4 is my favorite, but it could just be because I started with that one. Great stories, amazing relationships, awesome soundtracks)
Probably a tie between the first Deus Ex and the first Life is Strange.
Right now I am really enjoying a full exploration of Assasin's Creed Odyssey after finishing Ghost of Tsushima
I don't get the praise for these games personally, they look generic as all hell. I didn't play them myself but at this point I don't know is it even necessary anymore.
The game I had the most fun playing is unepic. The story is super funny, and the gameplay is quite cool, with a lot of engaging actions, decent challenge if you play in hard mode (I recommend doing the game once in hard
for the best experience, then once in easy
and hard++
if you want the achievements).
I also recommend that you get it with a few friends so that you can play the multiplayer dungeons together.
Super Mario World, all the way... 16Bits rules!
Very good game, however I can't get past Forest of Illusion.
I typed a super long reply with lots of context but Lemmy just ate it 😠 when I stood up to grab something to drink, so here's a bland list.

- Elder Scrolls
- No Man's Sky
- Red Dead Redemption
- Outer Worlds
- Tony Hawk (haven't tried the remastered version)
First game that came to mind - Chaos Engine by the Bitmap Bros. Great Music, Graphics, 2 player coop. Probably their best game and they had a few classics on the Amiga. No fave genre though.
This looks pretty cool, I will try the Genesis / Mega Drive version.
My favorites: Single player games: S.T.A.L.K.E.R series was the best and METRO 2033 and Last Light were good too.
Multiplayer games: GunZ the Duel (ijji)
Good games now days: Xonotic
I recently started playing Metro:Exodus (runs great on Linux with Proton btw), but I am really quite disappointed how they went from the strong linear SP story telling in the previous titles, to a hodgepot of little bit of open-world sandbox and other recent gaming tropes. Is that really what gamers want these days? Maybe it is just because all that is incredibly half-assed in that game, but still.
Overall still a somewhat decent game though.
This. I gave up before completing first map because of it, but I hear it gets better...
Not really. It gets different. They add in some car mechanic to drive aground the open-world map and so on.
For the plot:
- Deus Ex (the game that got me into immersive sims)
- Bioshock Infinite (not perfect gameplay, but amazing plot)
For the gameplay:
- Super Mario 64 (my favorite 3D platformer, only rivaled by Super Mario Galaxy and Odyssey)
- Towerfall (unique 2D platformer that you must try, especially with friends)
- Cuphead (tough 2D platformer with incredible art style)
- Portal 2 (fun puzzle game - extra fun with friends)
- Splitgate Arena (basically if Portal was an arena shooter)
- Minecraft (especially with modpacks)
- Far Cry 5 (the most fun I've ever had with friends in any game ever)
- Halo 2 (real ones know)
With a gun to my head, I will say God Hand; however, Robotron 2084 and The Wonderful 101 are not far behind.
I’d say my favorite genre is action; be it third-person, isometric, or side-scrolling, as long as combat is combo-driven, I’m in.
God Hand looks sick!... and is a PS2 exclusive. Oh gosh dang it I don't wanna deal with PS2 emulation :(
Maybe, it looks daunting if you haven't tried it before, and I can understand that, but setting up PCSX2 can really be done in three, short steps: (1) download and install PCSX2, (2) download PS2 bios, and (3) follow the PCSX2 launch wizard and select the bios file you downloaded.
It really shouldn't take longer than two minutes, and you will be able to play pretty much any ISO you find online. In my experience, it's even better, and easier, than using a cracked PS2.
For the plot:
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Moment of Silence (point & click adventure from way back of 2004).
For the gameplay:
Half-Life 1 (I didn't like the sequel/s all that much).
The Witcher 1 & 3.
For the plot, and gameplay:
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (it's on the Switch).
I just played through Half-Life 1, it has way better shooting than people give it credit for. I love the story telling too.
for gameplay: mirrors edge xonotic just cause 1&2 skate 1&2&3 thug 2
