Read that the other day too. Then I observed my dog for a couple of days but can't confirm. Doggo shits in any direction.

My dog definitely doesn't follow the alignment, as he mostly do a circle of poop around him, by rotating while shitting 😂

Or he either look at me, asserting his dominance while pushing one out.
