“If what you want is a centrist campaign that's quiet on trans issues, tough on the border, distances itself from Palestinians, talks a lot about law and order, and reaches out to moderate Republicans — that candidate existed, and she just lost," Oliver said.

This needs to be shouted from the rooftops.

Hey come on now, let's not get a silly thing like facts, logic or reason get in the way of lib bigotry. This is their golden ticket excuse to take a turn demonizing us.

Jon Stewart said the same thing, Democrats and pundits were talking about being too far left this whole campaign. So he showed a bunch of the Democrat's commercials from this campaign season, and none of them mentioned "woke, left" policies.

It was all about the border, or funding the police, or that they explicitly don't support "forced sex changes."

And Stewart responded, "... What woke, left, progressive policies?!? These all sound like Republican talking points!"

Will we ever stop slamming?

Would you prefer that he fires back? Or perhaps that he goes off?

Are there seriously people who believe that transgender people made democrats lose the election?

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 22 points 3 months ago

they took a page out of the Republican handbook.

when in doubt, blame trans people.

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 21 points 3 months ago

Yes, the same establishment democrats that fucked up this campaign. They literally can't admit that factors like economic policy or Gaza were huge causes, because their employers won't allow them, so they have to find another scapegoat.

[–] Famko@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

There have been Democrat "strategists" that say the campaign was "too woke" which includes trans people.

Though I can't remember when Kamala actually talked about trans people in her rallies.

[–] MirthfulAlembic@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

Yeah. The Republicans ran a ton of anti-trans hysteria ads at all levels, including Trump. The Democrats didn't significantly address the issue, so the belief is everyone just believed the nonsense from the anti-trans ads.

I am skeptical of this theory until there's good data to back it up (not holding my breath). I doubt it convinced anyone who wasn't already transphobic; it may have helped turning out transphobes.

I haven't seen this take anywhere. It's all gaza talk and being establishment.

[–] alcoholicorn@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

News week ran multiple articles blaming Harris's campaign for being too woke, and I've seen countless takes on Lemmy trying to argue that the electorate move to the right, pretending that democrats didn't just move to the right.

[–] whydudothatdrcrane@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 months ago

How can someone believe that without first believing that being transgender is extremely wrong and edgy, whatever that entails. That's why you hear so much ignorant transphobic shit from Democrats like "catering to the far left" and "biological boys should not compete with girls at school".

[–] rozodru@lemmy.world 21 points 3 months ago

well lets see you had at least 20mil that just didn't bother voting, you had another nearly 10mil that voted for trump because they're idiots who are easily convinced that some how trump would back Palestine and then you had an overal campaign that was more focused on turning red to blue as opposed to motivating it's lazy and complacent base to simply turn up and vote....

but sure, lets blame the trans people.

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Gotta love it when the article is just giving you the subtitles from the episode with no actual journalism. At least AI would paraphrase in it's own words...

[–] DeadPand@midwest.social 6 points 3 months ago

AI stole all those words from the dictionary

[–] nimble@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 months ago

Welcome to modern journalism 🙃

By that logic, immigrants lost the election for the Democrats. But of course, that logic is chucklefuckery.

[–] alcoholicorn@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 months ago

Immigrants lost the election in the sense that the DNC spent millions demonizing them with ads like this and this and then act surprised when the people vote for the party that hates immigrants more overtly?

[–] whydudothatdrcrane@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 months ago

Our collective problem is that trans is seen as being punk AF. It should be as much punk as canned soup. I am sick and tired of this.

[–] vga@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

We don't need a centrist campaign that's quiet on trans issues, we need a centrist campaign that brings some fucking sense to the trans issues.
