Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted, clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts: 1

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
    • If you feel strongly that you want politics back, please volunteer as a mod.
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I don't care what you say, I'm not going through your history and upvoting everything.

I did it instead. No regerts.

Not even a letter?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 months ago

Might it just be people being happy to recognise someone sharing their point of view?

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 months ago

Hard NOT to upvote such a based comment history. ✊🏼

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Detecting that would require a skill set.

You mean like a particular set of skills? Skills you acquire over a very long career?

If you let my post history go now, that'll be the end of it. If you don't, I will look for you. I WILL find you. And I will give you a discerning disapproving look. For like....a really long uncomfortable silent time.

Who is checking their own post history's upvote count?

[–] Rentlar 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I sometimes do that, but only like 3 or 4 posts/comments, not the whole history.

When I read a comment that makes me double-take, I check whether this is a troll that spouts a certain kind of contrarian take on every thread (you know the kind I'm talking about), or if it's someone who posts reasonably most of the time but will put out a mind-provoking thought once in a while. I think the latter is fine and part of healthy discourse, so I'll upvote the unpopular take and some of their reasonable takes that I checked.

You're a good person.

Coughing on people in 2020 gave me plenty of erections.

Just one extra upvote for you, smartass :).

How to get someone banned.

Step 1: Copy the targets username but add a "-1" to the end of their name.

Step 2: Upvote every of their comment.

Step 3: ???

Step 4: Congrats, you are an asshole!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Are mods actually dumb enough to assume someone would be dumb enough to include their own username in the vote brigading account though

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Eh, mods are kinda like cops, shoot first ask later.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Mods are no different from normal users. They'll ban you if you say something they don't like.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

........? I'm stupid. I don't get it.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

I think they're suggesting it would seem like the user is upvoting their own comments with an alt, which could get them banned.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If I make an account with the username "Lost_My_Mind_1" and keep upvoting your comments, it would look like you were doing voting manipulation and both accounts get banned.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Oh, ok. I am stupid then. I thought you were saying that while logged into ERROR: Earth.exe has crashed, you would navigate to Lemmy.World/c/Lost_My_Mind-1 and downvote some kind of ghost account.

I was like "Small brain doesn't understand. Big stomach is hungry!!! ME WANT FOOD!!!"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

I have that habit 😅 ...but I've never seen a reverse trolling

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

Never noticed.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Actual schizo behavior lmao I love the internet.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

No no no, we don't do that kind of critical thinking around here, blind outrage posting is the only allowable form of communication!
