Maman (1999) is a bronze, stainless steel, and marble sculpture in several locations by the artist Louise Bourgeois. The sculpture, which depicts a spider, is among the world's largest, measuring over 30 ft high and over 33 ft wide (9.27 x 8.91 x 10.24 metres). It includes a sac containing 32 marble eggs and its abdomen and thorax are made of rubbed bronze. The title is the familiar French word for Mother (akin to Mummy or Mommy). The sculpture was created in 1999 by Bourgeois as a part of her inaugural commission of The Unilever Series (2000), in the Turbine Hall at London's Tate Modern. This original was created in steel, with an edition of six subsequent castings in bronze.

This looks awesome. Reminds me of the automations in Frostpunk.

Is this a photo from the Guggenheim in Spain?

Yes, according to the Wikipedia page. Been there / seen that?

Yes! But it wasn't at night, hence the question. The night time setting makes it look all the more sinister!

Oh man, yes, night time viewing really does affect a sculpture. Like this image of "Blucifer" near the airport in my home town.

Got under it once with a fisheye lens. Made some pretty cool photos.

Walked under this, in the opening year, at the Turbine Hall.

Got a real feel for what War of the Worlds, The Tripods(1984), and The Triffids are trying to convey.

Love it! Flashbacks to Enemy (2013) and the Gonarch from Half-Life.

Aha! The gonarch is what was in my head but I couldn't place it exactly. Thanks!

There are multiple copies, in various cities. I like that black version the most though.
