President Donald Trump's administration is offering federal workers the chance to take a "deferred resignation," which would mean they agree now to resign but get paid through September.

A senior administration official told NBC News that they expect 5%-10% of the federal workforce to quit, which, they estimate, could lead to around $100 billion in savings.

All full-time federal employees are eligible, except for members of the military, employees of the U.S. Postal Service, positions related to immigration enforcement and national security and other jobs excluded by agencies.

The offer went out to the federal workforce through a new system the Trump administration set up that gives officials the ability to email all federal employees at once.

The email included a draft resignation letter for them to review. If a person wishes to resign, they will be able to reply with the word "resign."

The resignation period will begin Tuesday and go through Feb. 6.

This reeks of a 1980’s corporate hostile takeover.

  1. Gut the US government agencies
  2. Close the ones that fail to perform
  3. ???
  4. Profit

I mean, if there was a god, one would want to end the US for equality. But there is no god and we're on our own to fight against inequality.

Funny because Faking Gong believes Trump is a divine intervention to bring down the CCP.

Probably unsurprising to everyone here, but this is importantly NOT a severance in most cases. It is a delayed resignation. You submit your resignation but are expected to keep working for the duration of that period and can be fired at any point in that timeframe without any further payment.

Basically they are asking to voluntarily surrender your union protections so you can be shat upon. It is definitely not an offer for 8 month free wages in exchange for resigning

So fun fact, the max payout allowed is $25k... and why would anyone expect Trump and Musk to actually pay?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

it's not even a good deal. i wouldn't quit for less than a year of payment.

“All 2 million”? I’m pretty sure there’s more federal workers than that.

"Where's my stapler?"

I don't think this includes USPS.

Not including USPS nor armed goons at home or abroad

If the economy wasn't so tight, the funniest thing would be for all of them to resign. On mass.

Depending on the wording, if they are not expected to work until September, that's a solid few months to find a job.

It would massively slow down their ability to achieve meaningful changes.

In a normal government, I'd agree with you.

But this is fascism times. Any en masse resignations would be a boon to Trump, because it would allow him to fill the positions with his sycophants who don't know what they are doing but think they do.

That's the sick twisted version of all of this. There are no good options as a federal employee except to resist.

the little accelerationist in me is jumping and screaming "yay", but i'll keep him on a leash.

Just FYI, Trump might just fire a lot of the federal employees in the future. The keyword is "Schedule F".

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Currently they are protected by unions, that's why they are trying to force return to office and offer fake buyouts

It's a way to thin out staff when you can't legally fire people

Plenty of * on which agencies

When the US government is doing its job we get a genocide. Maybe it is better if its nerfed in some way...

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

That is NOT the part that will be nerfed. It will be the beneficial parts, I guarantee.
