Summary

The U.S. military's deportation flight to Guatemala, ordered by Trump, cost approximately $4,675 per migrant—over five times the price of a first-class commercial ticket.

The C-17 military aircraft operation is significantly more expensive than ICE's commercial charter flights, which cost around $630 per person.

Trump defended the policy, vowing to continue deportations and warning countries that refuse cooperation.

The program, part of Trump's national emergency declaration, has already deported hundreds, though some countries, like Colombia, have resisted.

Presented to you by the "let's do shit without thinking or planning" party who does all this shit anyway just to divert people's attention from the fact that they're robbing the country blind

I sincerely wonder if they're just that stupid or if they're just pretending to get more attention here so they get less questions about the stealing part

I don't wanna be that guy, but these pilots and planes gotta keep flying for training and logging proper hours. If it wasn't this, it was going to be something else.

Still deplorable, but it's hard to say that this specific action incurred the high cost of the flight. A flight of some form or another on this same plane was going to need to happen anyway.

Yeah but that's under the DOD budget, not the ICE budget. It's okay we'll just cut troop pay again, they'll understand...

MAGA has a hardon for cruelty. They love the idea of these non-white people who have been working hard and paying taxes being handcuffed and blind folded, flown under armed escort, and humiliated by being treated like prisoners. They vigorously touch themselves and each other while watching Fox "News" coverage. They will allow the billionaires in the cabinet to loot the country bankrupt as long as they're hurting "them".

“But my taxes?! Oh wait…it’s to get rid of brown people and not provide healthcare. That’s fine.” - some maga cult member

Keep in mind how little taxes he paid, and you know why he does not care about government wasting money. He simply has no stake in it.

While you're correct, another option would be to use that money to help his fellow countrymen, but apparently that isn't American.

Which is exactly why they are going to stop doing it and either use immigrants as slave labor or just concentrate them at Gitmo until they decide that a Final Solution to the Immigrant Question is the most cost-effective strategy.

Hmm... sounds familiar.

Sadly, I am aware. That's why I sad the Gitmo thing. But they won't be able to keep them there forever and they will not spend this kind of money deporting them all, so there are really only two choices they will make since letting them go isn't something they're willing to consider: slave labor or death.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

They would have to fly, or ship them to Gitmo too. I can't imagine that being any cheaper.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 21 hours ago

Oh they can always slow boat them too.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 23 hours ago

Not if they don't plan on keeping them alive. Which was what I was suggesting.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Isn’t gitmo an incredibly small prison anyway?

There’s got to be millions of undocumented people, they’ll never fit in a little peninsula…

How can people not see where things are going

[–] [email protected] 2 points 20 hours ago

The announced plan is to build new facility with a capacity for 30,000, on the other side of the Guantanamo Bay from the existing prison.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 20 hours ago

Assume that they can see where things are going, and that enough of them are okay with that.

That's what we should be reacting to.

A U.S. official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, estimated the cost to operate a C-17 military transport aircraft is $28,500 per hour.

Or instead of making up fake officials, you could google "Fixed Wings and Helicopter Reimbursement Rates 2025", look up C-17A and see that the hourly rate is $19,862.

[–] GreyEyedGhost 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Your gotcha is that it only cost $3000 per person to deport them?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

There is no gotcha, I am just pointing out a blatant lie.
