Markdown requires either two spaces at the end of a line (line break) or an empty line (paragraph break, adds empty space) to separate lines.

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

Code whispers softly Bugs scatter in the flashlights beam Green checkmarks bloom

It didn't work for me.

Oops, meant two spaces and then a newline. For example, with · meaning space:

Code·whispers·softly··
Bugs·scatter·in·the·flashlights·beam··
Green·checkmarks·bloom

Why should undocumented people die for a crime while documented people shouldn't? It's the same crime. What possible argument is there for this except "It's cheaper just to kill them, and we don't give a fuck"? Effectively it's execution for not having your papers in order.

Also, won't this be used as the start of an excuse to kill whichever undocumented person they round up? And then to kill them in bulk, and then to kill the other people they decide to round up? There's no reason whatsoever to trust this administration. They don't believe in justice or laws.

The USA needs to find a way to get rid of these Nazis fast, or it'll be too late to mount any effective resistance.

Why should undocumented people die for a crime while documented people shouldn't?

There was some sort of Republican conference a couple weeks ago where he talked about how people where raping grandmas and pushing other people in front of subways. He explicitly stated, that he wanted the death penalty for not only immigrants, but also American citizens doing said crimes. But there were some "legal hurdles" to solve first.

In other words: He'll try and build extermination camps.

It's not cheaper to execute people, either. Even if convicted, they still get their appeals, which costs court and lawyer time and money, plus the imprisonment. Even if they exhaust their appeals, they sit on death row until the state actually manages to execute them, which is getting more difficult due to lack of executioners and method of execution materials (e.g. the lethal injection items).

[–] [email protected] 15 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It's not cheaper to execute people with our current legal framework. After we get 30,000 people in Guantanamo bay and illegal immigration has become a crime punishable by death, things could change.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They only started killing them in the 40s because they ran out of room. It's the logical, horrific conclusion to permanent detention of millions of people.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

I think they want to fast track it. These are the people who masturbate over their piles of firearms hoping someone breaks into their house so they can legally murder someone.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

I assume you mean they'll be simply shot in the street?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 days ago

Ha, due process? Unlikely

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

it's actually quite a bit more expensive to execute someone than to house them for life.

Much to the surprise of many who, logically, would assume that shortening someone's life should be cheaper than paying for it until natural expiration, it turns out that it is actually cheaper to imprison someone for life than to execute them. In fact, it is almost 10 times cheaper! One might ask, “how can that be?”

Of course, all of those costs are related to giving people fair trials and weighing previous evidence and considering that previous trials might have gotten things wrong.

In Trump's America, you're guilty until proven innocent, so none of that applies.

[–] floofloof 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

In Trump's America you'll be guilty if he says so until executed. There will be no opportunity to prove innocence.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Sure there will. Post-execution. At which point, the excuses begin.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

sad but almost certainly going to be true soon enough :/

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

It's not about justice. It's about finding an excuse to murder brown people.

[–] [email protected] 45 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I can think of one felon who could stand to undergo a little death penalty

[–] [email protected] 31 points 3 days ago

In the past, treason used to be punished by death. Nowadays it's rewarded with a seat in the oval office.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Just a little death penalty. As a treat, for the American people.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

We've had first death penalty yes, but what about second?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 days ago

Sure, because Biden reduced all but three federal death penalty cases. Trump needs more people to victimize.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago

The only people who should suffer from the death penalty are the ones advocating for it.

And no, that wasn't a paradoxical statement.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

I suggest we invite trump out for a field day with an interactive exhibition on death penalty. And to honour the great Queen Trump, we'll give her the honours of trying it out first!

Let's go on record defending murderers and rapists instead of focusing on citizen children being deported.

[–] floofloof 2 points 3 days ago

If you're talking about this comment thread, people are defending equality before the law and due process, not defending rapists and murderers.
