The NFL was happy with how the dynamic kickoff worked in its inaugural run in 2024, but there may still be changes to the play in 2025.

Ffs, they have ruined the kickoff and this will make it worse.

Concussions and CTE ruined the kickoff.

Interested to know how you think this will make kickoffs worse. It will make them more risky for the kicking team - is that what you mean? This change would further incentivize the kicker to kick the ball into an area where the returner has to field the ball, which increases kickoffs actually returned, and hopefully results in more exciting game moments.

I just think the 35 to start is excessive. Sure, touchbacks will be disincentivised, but they will still happen probably more often than not. Aiming a kickoff is not so easy. Maybe in time kickers will get better at hitting the landing zone, idk. They already killed the surprise onside, and neutered the traditional onside kick to where it can only happen if declared and inside 2 minutes. At this point, just get rid of the kickoff altogether and start on the 20. Where it should be.

Moving the kicking tacklers closer to the receiver does reduce the speed at which collisions happen, which was the goal of the change, but most of the kickoffs were touchbacks. This will encourage kickers to drop it into play rather than kick it long, because that's more exciting.
