Unfortunately, many people do use Google services for malicious purposes, so its kinda understandable.

I see you have the VPN icon on, so getting constant searches, youtube watches, or logins from the same IP that is shared by other users of the same vpn would be red flags. Not saying I agree with them, but that's just how corporations see things. (and, of course, the personal information is a huge bonus)

Fun fact: Many websites block VPN or Tor traffic. Even a lemmy instance does that (lemmy.world)

Google is like a useful acquaintance who inevitably one day will pull a knife and threaten to cut you. You have to be ready to leave at a moment's notice.

This is true even if you are an enterprise customer

*especially if you are an enterprise customer

Umm...that does not sound like an acquaintance

But are they useful?

Why wait? Everyone should start migrating away from that shit yesterday.

I created an IG to be a porn account , to see NSFW content and follow pornstars, the such. I don't even have a normal IG, I started following people and out of nowhere IG decided I was a bot. Maybe because I only followed people and actually never browsed IG feed. In any case I needed to provide a phone number. Never did it, lost the account and the funny part is, I created the account using my FB account, but the FB account was never got flagged or banned. Since it is all meta I thought that they had better integration. In any case it seems the email address is blacklisted forever and I don't know if it is worth creating another email just to see some risqué pictures.

I've been anticipating then begging me for more personal info..I went ahead and created a new paid email with separate provider, migrated all my personal important stuff to that and set it up with my own domain .

The day they demand more info, I'll just abandon it. Google is the new Hotmail. Nothing but spam

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

What is the most private way to register a domain? Considering switching from hotmail to a Raspberry PI (postfix) mail server.

If Google wants to do so, they can do the same with YouTube.

There are other email providers out there, but there's only really one service like YouTube.

EDIT: Also, there are a lot of documents out there in Google Docs. I mean, if they start requiring a Google account with personal information to view those, they control access to a lot of stuff. And while hosting documents (dunno about editable documents) probably isn't as hard as hosting video, you can't just yourself migrate out of that the way you can with email. Need all the people sticking information on Google Docs to also do so.

All it means is I'll have more free time without being addicted to random Videos on YouTube. It'll probably be better for my mental health when they cripple yt that bad where I just won't use it other then emergency DIY stuff

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

There are better video platforms in terms of structure etc. and also for self-hosting with peertube. The problem is that people can't migrate to an alternative of the same size. It's the chicken and egg problem. The big ones were just lucky to be the first at the right time.
