The Apple Watch is now the smartwatch of choice for National Hockey League officials. Apple and the NHL just announced a collaboration where on-ice officials will wear Apple Watches that are running special software to receive important in-game information.

Would be nice to get a nhl ticket on Apple TV like they do for mls. “Fuck dem local networks, make it easy to watch” -the entire nhl fan base probably

I actually think this is pretty cool. The haptic feedback changes based on which alert it is for so a player coming out of penalty box will feel different to which players are in the box, also a countdown timer so they don’t have to look for the time on scoreboard etc.

I agree 100%.

Sounds like it shows numbers, maybe as notification?

Incredible way to show off and use an expensive smartwatch. As if it would matter which os runs to show some numbers. Hence, this is just an ad

It’s totally a business deal to have a sponsor just like the iPads for the reviews by teams. But it’s still pretty cool and could have some use cases. A little vibration to know it’s back to even strength isn’t much, but could help the ref continue to look at the play and not have to check that little thing. Can’t be too hopeful, but maybe some automation could help better officiating.
