Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I live in an area where a Nazi party got 40% of the votes, I don’t need any more dissenting opinions in my life

Paradox of tolerance.

Just remember if someone says you're in an echo chamber just ask if they're a part of it and if they say no then you're not in an echo chamber

funny how their "dissenting opinions" are usually just them being an asshole

[–] [email protected] 11 points 10 hours ago

Or a facist bootlicker. Also hai !

[–] [email protected] 21 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

In all of my time here I haven't seen a single person advocating for forcing disobedient children to eat dirt smh my head such an echo chamber literally 1984

Exactly. Current meta is "soup that makes them blind for 1 day", and I don't see that changing in the next few patches.

lol is this a TrueWagner?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 14 hours ago

Yeah, but people are getting tired of the soupmaxxing meta. I actually think the next meta is going to revolve around toenail clippings.

I don't visit alt-right spaces, like 4chan and so, but do they also have the occasional centrist asking them why they don't have leftist on their spaces?

I “enjoy” browsing 9gag and in that prison of racism and misogyny the odd poster pops up now and again with a bit of fact checking to dispel or disrupt whatever narrative the bot farms are pushing that day. As to opposing social views though? Not really - I guess the mass of users torpedo such comments with down voting etc.

I haven't checked in some years but iirc the dynamic is a little different since consensus is maintained with verbal abuse and soyjak memes moreso than moderation, and it's common to false flag an opposition perspective to bait angry engagement.

For those wondering, this is Junji Ito's Frankenstein adaptation

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 hours ago

I recognised the art style! Was hoping someone would post more details.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 day ago

I didn’t even know Junji Ito did a Frankenstein adaptation, so I am one of those wondering. Thanks for the info!

Holy shit Conner O'Malley strikes again. Guy in the window is a dead ringer for O'Malley.

I will say that O'Malley is the only comedian I know who channels these freaks on a deep visceral level.

I can literally hear this post in O'Malleys voice.

I intentionally contract a high-grade fever just so I can enjoy Conner O'Malley videos with that extra oomph.

I actually love that channel lol. A friend showed it to me a while ago and it is performance art (in the jerma985 sense).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 23 hours ago

I've seen him described as the Adam Curtis of comedy and I think that's accurate.

I pay money for this bubble, no way am I letting you in. You're gonna write swear words on the interior, I just know it. And I just had those curtains washed. Won't you leave me alone with my precious capital?
