They're my dad's friends plushies hahaha! I'd play with them everytime we went to visit her! She had/has so many, mostly tigers (her fav animal), but this is such a special photo! It's crazy I'd forgotten, but seeing this photo is bringing it all back in the best way possible!

Breakfast today, cold noodles with peanut sesame sauce and beef. Perfect for the heat today:

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I think that looks great and delicious

I just got a lecture on how that type is meal is unhealthy

my suggestion to serve themselves less carbs if they don't want so much carbs did not go down well , ( everyone in this house serves themselves )

apparently I should cook meals where a person should be able to serve themselves as much as they want

Just got a call from a wrong number.

"Steve just callin' 'bout your 400 head of cattle".

Me: "You might have the wrong number, but good luck with the cattle".

Him "oh, righto thanks mate".

Probably the shortest most aussie convo I've had in a while.

Bit concerned for Queensland with the coming cyclone. Sounds like it might be very destructive. Hope everyone can stay safe.

Something I've been stressing about for at least a year came into the open at work today and everyone just sorta went 🤷‍♀️

Not sure if that's good or not, but at least the stress is off my plate.

So lent-ish, I'm giving up browsing reddit for the rest of the month. There's plenty of more useful things I could do with my spare time than keep up to date with the high quality doom scrolling that's available these days. If I need to do some research it's fine but no wandering about in the endless void of it. Deleted my links on PC/phone, the digital equivalent of throwing my bong out.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

Yea with you there.

I don't mind climate doom scrolling on the collapse sub but the last few weeks over there have been, err.. yeah too much.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered some supplies to reupholster my couch & armchairs. I've been dithering for years over whether I want to spend the money doing that or just buy a new one. I have gotten to the stage of putting everything into the cart and seeing the total a few times, decided it was too much and started looking at new couches instead. Then I decide I quite like my couch and don't really want the cheap junk I could buy for that price and circle back around to reupholstering again.

So now I have $840 worth of foam, webbing etc. ordered (I already have fabric) and fingers crossed I don't mess it up. Miss Meow should be happy with my decision anyway, as the set has an open wood frame which makes the space underneath a good napping spot.

have a sudden craving for in the night garden. now watching upsy daisy and her special stone.

spoilerupsy daisy wants to ride the ninky nonk, so she gave her special stone to igglepiggle to look after, even gave him a kiss on the lips before leaving, but he went off to play ball and forgot about the stone

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

Our dog loves in the night garden. I think it’s the bright colours. Sometimes we’ll watch an episode with him as a treat.

Whilst I'd prefer to stay inside in air conditioned comfort I am going to take a load of stuff down to the op shop. Hopefully I can fit everything in one trip.

Edit: Done. It all fit in the car & has been dropped off. There was an annoying lady in a van blocking the drive through for a ridiculous amount of time and causing carpark gridlock and chaos everywhere, but otherwise it was not too traumatic. I even got rid of the blind that I sold on marketplace to four different people who never actually showed up.

Thank you Brion 😘

Good night everyone. Sweet dreams. 🥰

After about 15 years of service, my washing machine died last week. I am now the owner of a brand new washer! Old machine was a top loader and new one is a front loader, so there may be some trial and error to figure out my preferred wash cycles. Mount Washmore here I come. Good weather for drying too.

Right so the solution to my insomnia it seems, is to be so fucking wrecked from the gym, that I pass out.

This is the longest stretch of sleep I've had in a really long time.

I'll try again tomorrow night and see what happens.

So apparently my iron is low so I need to get on the supplements and also start eating a bit more medicinal red meat. I'm not a vegetarian any more but left to my own devices i can go a long time without (much) meat. So I have some stewing steak defrosting but I can't decide between a chilli con carne or an old fashioned stew (both instant pot so it doesn't heat up the place too much).....leaning towards the chilli......

Anyone got any good recipes?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago (7 children)

Please consider braised steak and onions. Beef, onions and beef stock. Thicken it up at the end of cooking. Garlic, herbs optional. Paired it with mashed potato and steamed veg.

Some peeps put sauce in there. I do not.

I've been reading "How to Make Yourself Miserable, a Vital Training Manual" and I am pleased to report I do hardly anything in that book.

As a positive self affirming confidence boosting exercise I'm going to tick all the things listed I don't do. Which is like 95%. 🙂 I can work on the others.

Client had a major incident. Infra manager called me. We have to work through it till it's solved.

Looks like a late start for this cowboy.

Managed to do a big clean in just 2 hours - wiping everything including the windowsills, scrubbing the bathtub, sinks and stove, moving empty heavy pots temporarily out of common area, massive vacuum and mop... As usual, nothing like last minute panic to finally get shit done that really didn't need to take that long after all...

Good thing is the REA actually seemed decent enough and not too anal about details, most importantly it seems like the short lease period was only because it was a lease break situation and not because they want to sell - so I can be confident of rolling onto a monthly situation til the end of my studies. No need to rush around looking for a friend to crash with for the last 1-2 months, but I can also bugger off afterwards fairly easily afterwards.

Now to just get to the end of this frigging degree...

It looks like technology companies have just given up on smart home stuff. There are no more smart clocks, smart displays, not even speakers side from Sonos. Everyone got sick of using these things and the world has moved on.

This means I can chuck out my smart clock with the broken cable. I can actually get rid of it completely! It's the cable that's broken, not the unit, and it's such a weird voltage and connector it's not worth trying to replace.

It's a bit of a shame to contribute to more ewaste. I might drop it off at one of the ewaste points at a library or office works. But it's nice to know I can let go of something. No holding onto a cable 'just in case'. No need to try get an otherwise perfectly fine unit to work, because I didn't use it anyway. I can actually throw this thing out, and there's no equivalent on the market to replace it with.
