I just want to note that one of the key links on the NLG site, under Protest Tools > Legal Hotlines, is broken. (The "Chapter Page" link goes to a broken draft version.) If you went to that site specifically to find a local chapter's phone number to write, the correct link to that page is: https://www.nlg.org/chapters/

I'm going too! Making some puppets to hold signs with in support of PBS funding and unions. I recently learned how to work with felt and want to use my new skill for good.

I'm thinking signs could be:

"Have you learned NOTHING from sesame Street?"

"This is not very Mr. Rogers of you Donald"

"That's not how we treat our neighbors" with a cutout of Mr. Rogers

"Even puppets can recognize that clown"

any additional ideas welcome!

Make a puppet of Trump and dress up like Putin. Or Musk, if that's easier.

Stock market crashing -> now a reason for corporate interests to align with resistance -> finally hearing about protests in mainstream media

To begin with, Franco was not strictly comparable with Hitler or Mussolini. His rising was a military mutiny backed up by the aristocracy and the Church, and in the main, especially at the beginning, it was an attempt not so much to impose Fascism as to restore feudalism. This meant that Franco had against him not only the working class but also various sections of the liberal bourgeoisie—the very people who are the supporters of Fascism when it appears in a more modern form.

From Orwell's "Homage to Catalonia", emphasizes added.

The bourgeoisie aligning to the resistance has happened before. Now, make no mistake: they will betray the movement as soon as it's in their interests to do so. Don't trust them past the current crisis.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Don't even trust them now. Nothing has happened yet. We can say that they took our side after MAGA is out of power and the extremist apparatus that supported them is totally destroyed.

If there's one lesson we can learn from Trump, it's that it's much easier to destroy something than it is to build it. IF we gain power again, we need to take that lesson to heart, and turn it against the fascists who gleefully applied it to the American people, and the rest of the democratic world.

It's fascinatingly dumb how short-sighted they are. Do they like having money? People deported, in jail, dead, unemployed, homeless can't buy their stuff. A delusional hope of feeding off government money only works until the government no longer has a use for you, or decides to just take you over and you become part of the government.

It is in their best interests to support the masses, but they can't ever see past 3 months in the future.

Remember, folks: avoid attempts by bad actors to turn your peaceful legal protest into a riot, 47's itching for an excuse to invoke martial law and seize more power. Disable biometrics on any phone you bring. Make sure someone knows where you're going and is waiting to hear you made it home. Don't post pictures or videos that identify people, who may be risking a lot more than you by being there. You don't want to be the reason ICE disappears someone. Protect yourself from teargas but also from plain old sunburn and dehydration.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Itching, he wants to invoke it, using specifically the insurrection act of 1807, tomorrow they may push it earlier then 90 days since it was always part of project 2025 and also due the senate most likely passing a bill to limit his power for tariff by needing approval from them to be used, so they enact it just a bit earlier to make sure national emergency still exist. Don't be surprised if it is invoked as this was always planned as part of project 2025.

Pull a Gandhi and sit and let them get recorded beating and arresting people standing still

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Problem is, 47, his henches, the entire GOP and cops in general have zero ability to feel shame or remorse, and nobody who does has the power to stop them. I think protesting peacefully but being ready to run and scatter seems to increase the likelihood you'll live to protest again.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

Not to mention: if the content doesn’t sell ad impressions, legacy media isn’t going to give a shit.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it really doesn't matter because Trump doesn't care about or relate to actual fact for anything. HOWEVER, it is critically important that you get to the protest and start connecting to other protestors on Signal before the crackdown happens

I'm going to one and so should you. Fuck these fascists.

We had an anti-Trump protest in Alabama. In ALABAMA. And this wasn't mostly college-aged liberals. It was primarily older white people, the republican core demographic. If we, by some miracle, make it through the next three and a half years, the Republicans are going to suffer historical losses across the board.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Even if the system isn't completely rigged by then, it's been proven time and time again that the average voter has the attention span of a toddler on sugar. I'm afraid what happens now, three and a half years away from the elections, will have no influence on the elections.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 day ago

"The new guy cant be as bad"

Or

"I'm not voting for a woman"

Or

"I'd rather vot for Trump than a demented person X"

I have very little faith in the average person.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They are going to let the protests grow. By next summer, there will be massive protests about all sorts of bad stuff. Just pick your issue, there will be a protest for it. Most cities will have multiple mass protests over multiple issues simultaneously.

HitlerPig will encourage his RedHats to stir up some standard street violence, then send in the authorities to quell the violence with ferocious lethal violence. Many will die.

He will use that to justify Martial Law and suspend elections for the first time in American history. He can't afford to allow the House or the Srnate to flip, and give the Drmocrats control of investigative committees with subpoena and arrest powers.

Block the access roads to Mar-a-Lago

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago

The weird ass trump supporters already do that every day still like the election is still happening. It's a cult I swear. They're on the fucking overpass waving flags constantly.

I checked the map, the closest protest seems to be a government building in west palm.

100% unrelated, Anyone know if Faraday bag for phone is a good option for large gatherings where i uhh... just want to be part of the moment?

[–] [email protected] 37 points 1 day ago

Bring an old fashioned digital camera and leave the phone at home

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you really can't bear to be without a phone, get 2 burners. Put the number of each on the other. Nothing else. Bring one, and give the other to the person who might need you urgently or might be able to bail you out. You can write their burner number on yourself for EMTs to call, without giving police any justification for getting into their real phone.

If you don't want to be tracked down afterwards based on your phone's location, turning it off will suffice.

If you fear to get arrested, you should just leave it at home or somewhere it cannot be found too easily.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 day ago

And if you do take it along, set your lock screen to a pin, not a fingerprint. There are still some legal protections left (for now), and police can make you unlock a fingerprint but not a pin. I know, it's silly, but that's how it works.

I've tested some and they work good if properly wrapped shut, but probably better for day-to-day use and less for such an event where you'd probably be best just to leave it home. Phones use radio frequencies from 14MHz (NFC) to 39GHz (5G mmWave) with spec up to 71GHz. It is real hard to get a radio wave blocker bag that can block almost every conceivable frequency band in the RF spectrum.

It is also hard to truly turn phones off anymore, many broadcast Bluetooth beacons when powered off, and even outside of that, they leave dead-reckoning tracking turned on that can extrapolate where you may have gone just by how you walk. It is also why a phone turned off can still have a dead battery in a month or two, because stuff is kept running, when older phones truly turned off and you could pick it up a year later and still have a charge.

EE here - a well sealed foil pouch should work just fine for basically all RF radiation. Even at a few MHz a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil has like 150dB of attenuation, and that goes up to basically infinity above 1GHz.
