#Local community for the win!
Hi all! My name is Rainer and I am the publisher of a local news site called The Langley Union (https://langleyunion.ca/). I have become a mod for this community with the goal of revitalizing it to be a lively and dependably updated platform for those of us who live here.
There were people posting here before, but it seems to have fallen off and I'd like to revamp the efforts to make a local fedi-space for folks in our community.
#The Langley Union and the Fediverse
One of my main goals for The Langley Union (which is a higher priority than monetization at this point) is to foster a local news environment that is capable of distributing consistent, independent news that prioritizes progressive voices and perspectives. That is currently manifesting itself in my personal site (LangleyUnion.ca), but it's important that our community has a platform beyond my own Ghost blog. Hence, taking on mod responsibilities here on Lemmy.
#A note on how I post my own content here
You'll probably see a lot of content on this sub from my site (LangleyUnion.ca), but please feel free to add your own content. I am using my site to add as much Langley-specific content as I can, and then I'm going to share the links here, but I am very aware that many of these articles may not land with folks here. Please feel free to downvote / be critical of that content if you want to.
My goal here is simply to foster a healthy, decentralized portal for our community, and posting my own content here is part of that. I'm fine if people want to downvote my posts and/or be critical in the comments. The point isn't to post propaganda, but rather to be the first person to start contributing my voice into this community space.
