Always maintain the French work ethic:

  • No communication outside work hours
  • Dont care about the buissnes
  • Dont care about the boss
  • Never attend optional "teambuilding" exercises
  • Don't do work outside work hours
  • Use as many sick/vacation days as possible
  • Always prioritize your mental and physical health above corporate profits

I'm fine with teambuilding events as long as they are during working hours. Rowing a canoe or shooting arrows instead of my desk job is certainly the better choice

You know it’s possible to like the people you work with right?

Work with, not work under.

I can like them too, but I’m not going to do them any additional favors. It’s part of the cosmic balance.

best practice is don't even respond. most people will get the message that you basically don't exist if you're not physically at work. and if not, fuckem

I'd reply "hey" back on Monday morning when the new shift starts.

work communication is for work. after 17:00 that shit gets turned off.

Hell yes. Work phone is scheduled to go silent at 16:00 just in case I forget to turn it off.

My work phone is always on vibrate and not on my person when I’m not being paid to have it on me.

A trully PRO move.

My boss got an earful yesterday when he called to ask me to come in to work, I was at a furry convention and a howl had started right after I said hello.

He was confused, I didn't elaborate, and I told him I wasn't coming in until June as I was on my vacation.

I actually love when my boss asks me to do shit afterhours but that's only because I get paid double time to do so, I have no life, and I can always just say no if I'm not the one scheduled to be on call at the time. It's amazing how if you pay people enough and treat them well then they are willing to do things for you. Funny how that works.

Okay I get that your dad could have reacted better. More importantly though, what are you doing about your actual problem?
