MODERATORS

I hate this.

Every time i add an event to my calendar i have to read the whole list of freshly randomized, non-fitting reminder-time-options just to set a custom one anyway.

And as my memory is completely unreliable i set like 10 different reminders a day for everything.

This is on Pixel 6a.

Is there an obvious fix i'm not seeing?

Thx! ๐Ÿ™‚

You know it's time to sleep when Lemmy goes German

[โ€“] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

that's another issue, lol.

i have my phone set to english but occasionally some apps use the 2nd system language for no reason.

it's a known bug. the recommended fix?: reboot ๐Ÿซฉ

Sometimes mine becomes Japanese. I have no idea why. It's not set like that anywhere.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

That has never happened to me personally, but at one of my jobs I recently helped a lady whose phone had suddenly switched to Hausa (including the settings menu, which made changing it back to French a bit tricky). She neither spoke nor understood the language โ€” couldnโ€™t even recognise it, actually โ€” and had no idea how it had happened.

I was just about to say same, and go enable Japanese again to see it do it, but then I realized I had Japanese enable this whole time and it stopped doing it like it used to.

But I used to swipe down from the top and the quick menu would be in Japanese for no fucking reason ๐Ÿ’€ (although some buttons were in Eng?)

IDK why it stopped doing that, maybe new updates fixed it. I'm on Pixel 8a and using the most current Graphene stable update.

That's really weird. I have it set up the same way, English (US) as the first language and German as the second and I've never had that problem. But maybe I could download one of the apps where that happens for you and see if it's the same on my device.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

it happens all over the place. in the official google calendar app, but also in the system settings, etc. so it's not just in external apps.

it's weird ๐Ÿ˜…

i'm on android 15 (2025-05-05)

Hey, now, that's the "power" of "AI" at work! /s

[โ€“] [email protected] 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Maybe it changes based on previous settings? Mine doesn't look like that at all

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

mine is 5m, 1h, 2h, 1d, 4w, custom on gcal on a pixel. It might be based on commonly-chosen ones to some degree, but I rarely, if ever, have selected 5m so I'm not sure.

A different calendar app might have something better

If you have a common pattern, you could create a custom calendar with that pattern. For example, if you always want 3 reminders for this schedule:

  • 10 minutes before
  • 1 hour before
  • 12 hours before

You can make a calendar with that preset, and then for any events that need that pattern, you set it to that calendar

I knkw that I can change it somewhere. I believe it was the settings panel in the calendar.

I feel like it's been a decade already... I paid for this app called CalenGoo. It's kind of clunky and reminiscent of older office software, but it is such a powerhouse under the hood.

It is insanely customizable, and it did the thing that I needed the most, which was to remind me in a way that I define!!!

(Edit the whole reason I purchased it at the time was because there simply was no option available where you could get an Android app to continually remind you. Back then it was one reminder and then fuck you if you miss it or didn't hear it go off. CalenGoo was life-changing in this way and I've come to love all the other features)

Plus when it does have a reminder go off, I can set any kind of quick snooze or even a very customized snooze like remind me in 172 minutes. If I dismiss a reminder I can undo it, and I can go into the specific event at any time and I can change the snooze, it's just... I don't even know how to describe how good this thing is.

When I set an event I can link it to map coordinates, Contact Cards, attach objects, have it synced to multiple calendars. It integrates with other apps which can then add in reminders (eg a line music event on FB). Linked events will update in real time and you'll get notifications for example if the venue changes.

Maybe try a different calendar app. Fossify calendar is pretty good.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Its fine, except it shunts "all day" events to the previous day.

The amount of times I went to roll my trash cans out Wednesday night... Trash is picked up early Friday morning, so I have an all day "event" on Thursday that reminds me periodically to bring them out Thursday night. For whatever reason, Fossify calendar shows those kinds of events a day early and it drove me absolutely insane, because there's no way to fix it.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

You should report that as a bug. It doesn't do that for me. I use it exactly the same way. Maybe it's a time zone thing.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Does that synchronize with Google Calendar?

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

It should. As far as I understand it all calendars on Android use Android's calendar system in the background and are basically just frontends.

It synchronizes with CalDAV, you need DAVxโต though.

๐Ÿฅด Sounds too complicated for me, thanks.
