The fact that a 30k car is the benchmark for affordable is insane
Electric Vehicles
Overview:
Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. This community is where we discuss the various different vehicles and news stories regarding electric transportation.

30k MSRP. You just know dealers are going to double that price if they think they can get away with it.
No one is paying double that for these cars.
Maybe not double, but somehow dealers were convincing people to pay 10k over MSRP for a Kia for a while.
Them charging that doesn't mean people were paying. And that was likely only during the supply crunch
Oh trust me, people were paying.
The supply crunch wasn't actually that bad, but it made people absolutely ravenous.
It's still better than 45k, gotta take the wins you can get.
Haven’t bought a new car recently have you?
Dealerships charging insane prices doesn't make slightly less insane "affordable"
Most dealers aren't charging insane markups these days. 2022 was the peak of that.
Some areas dealers still charge markups, but most are MSRP or less. Hell the "employee pricing" stuff has been HUGE lately charging ~invoice.
At least where I am, it is illegal for dealers to sell above MSRP.
Yeesh they sure did ruin the smol looks of the bolt. It's just another suv blob now. RIP. also, to who is 30k affordable?
I think that image is of the Equinox, which was mentioned in the article. The 2027 Bolt hasn't started production.
I certainly can't pay $30k, but for a new EV, that's pretty damn good.
For a reasonably sized EV with about 300 miles of range 30k is not bad.
The Kia K4 which is a compact ICE sedan starts at 22k, and the Seltos hatchback thingy starts at 25. Long gone are the days of the 15k sedan. Well unless you count the Mirage. I barely consider that a car.
Just not to America.
It,s a chevrolet tho, so good luck for whoever buys it.
I hope it doesn’t look like the car in the picture. Because that is uuuuugly.
