I don't think it's right to assume that people who block political online content are doing nothing. Hell, I think it's more likely that people who consume a lot of political content feel that they're doing something when they aren't.
Implying Lemmy is the best/only place to get political news. :/
Some of us come here for fun and get our doom elsewhere.

The people in this thread acting like you need to be tuned in to everything all the time with no filter baffle me. You can block all politics on Lemmy and get your political news elsewhere. People are more than entitled to cultivate the spaces they inhabit and use.
Please be patient with us while we struggle with trying to stop a burgeoning dictatorship.

That’s what a lot of Germans did back then: ignoring what’s going on.
In the defence of some of us, like myself for instance, I live in a country where we can do literally jack shit to affect American political bullcrap, because it's nowhere near America. I'm pretty sure Europeans are excused from having to stay up to date every moment, unless we can force the rest of the world to be continuously in the loop about... idk, whatever crap Geert Wilders is up to right now...
I also don’t live anywhere near the US. Do I feel like I can’t do anything? Not at all.
I deleted my PayPal account
I deleted my Amazon account
I deleted my Instagram account
I switched to a Linux distribution which is mainly developed in Europe
I deleted my Google account
I deleted my WhatsApp account
I try to boycott as many American products (physical or digital) as possible.

Regretfully this is my local news so sticking my head in the sand probably won't help.
You could also choose an instance like programming.dev that hides political communities by default
I didn't even realise my instance did this (I didn't do research)
But if this is it minimised, I don't want to see the full amount
I don't subscribe to political communities at all. If I want to see politics I switch to the All tab. Most of the time I go through Subscribed or Local though.
How would you even do this? It would take forever. Is there like a blocklist you can import?
