Hi all, I was looking to buy RGB lights, particularly something like the Philips Hue Light bar.

Aside from it being very expensive and requiring a hub for its "smart" features, as far as I can tell the software used to control it isn't open source.

I know OpenRGB exists but I'd prefer a manufacturer that supports open source software, if that exists. Any other recommendations welcome! Thanks

You can buy a ConBee 2, look for RGB lights in their list of supported Zigbee devices and then plug the ConBee to a RPI running Home Assistant.

That looks like exactly what I want, thank you! Do you know of the ConBee is open source?

Yes, the software that controls the ConBee is OSS

philips hue (and many others) use zigbee, which means you could set up a self hosted instance of something like home assistant and get a zigbee adapter. That way you can control the zigbee lights with open source and self hosted software, and you also have the option of keeping everything entirely local if privacy is a concern

You'll want to look at z wave or ZigBee. Then control with home assistant.

Hue is I recall is ZigBee so you can control with home assistant.

If you connect them with motherboard rgb sync header you might be able to adjust them
