Mamdani wants to siphon money off the NY elite for populist reasons. Trump wants to siphon money off the NY elite because they rejected him and he's a vengeful little bitch. Mamdani could easily charm Trump by pointing out that his motives will harm Trump's enemies.
Mamdani needs to float the idea of trumpcare and trumpbucks for MFA and UBI. Point out using his name like that will last well beyond his life and would replace Obamacare, so he would like that.

Trump has dementia, which makes him extremely suggestible. That's on top of being dumb, as another reply mentioned.
You can see it most clearly with regards to Ukraine: he meets in person with Putin, and does pro-Russia things. Then he meets in person with Zelensky, and does pro-Ukraine things. Rinse and repeat.
