Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.

Not sure if you're joking, but since we're in a history venue, that part of the axe is called the poll and once folks figured out weighting the back like that improved swinging characteristics, the poll looked like as pictured until forging techniques improved.
But a convenient hammer it does make 🙂
