or "Our advertisers are complaining that their ads are being served more towards bots than actual humans, we need to verify that real people are consuming the ads"

or "techno-fascist has been given marching orders by the fascist oligarchs to accelerate the surveillance state to totalitarianism"

Pigboy really doesn't understand what used to attract people to his platform.

[–] MagnificentSteiner@lemmy.zip 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I assume the why of this is because they need to prove to advertisers that the clicks come from real humans. That's possibly also the motivation for Meta lobbying for age verification.

That's gotta be a large part of it. 5 years ago, most bots used true user-agents to identity themselves. Today, on my work sites, about 98% of bot traffic (traffic coming from data centers) use slightly out of date Chrome user-agents. So we just block all data centers.

Reddit spent years not giving a fuck about bots because they artificially inflated the user account, the abrupt about face is suspicious as hell.

Guessing they are getting complaints from their AI trainer clients. And guessing the AI trainer clients are using "training on AI output" as an excuse to avoid admitting that there are fundamental issues that won't be solved behind the "often makes shit up" problem.

More IDs, less Reddit. Fine by me.

[–] misk@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I don’t think reddit is about to enforce biometric passkeys on every user because they likely want to stay in business for a bit longer.

Up next, AI passes checks better than humans.

Guy also probably diddles kids and/or enjoys watching others do so, so I'm not sure we can trust what he says. They not like us.

(I say that as someone who was banned from Reddit for suggesting child predators face stricter sentencing. Banned for hate speech. Figured it was a bot so I appealed, ban was upheld by a human, or so they said.)

[–] jeff@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Reddit bans (and shadow bans) are unreasonable and unfair. The fact that you can be banned for the smallest little thing just means that there is no true diversity of opinion, it's just a hive mind with a false consensus.

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 16 hours ago

Yes, and that hive mind is often accused of being leftist and progressive, but often seems to serve the imperialists.

If he wants to be sure there's human behind, he should just go to /r/Ass. 🤷‍♂️

On the one hand fuck reddit and I'll gladly let spez shoot himself in the dick. On the other hand lemmy has been so cool these past years with actual discussions and valuable information. I'd hate for it to degrade into a brain dead string of reaction memes due to a reddit exodus.

God he sucks

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Do you think they could fit any more scrolling garbage in the UI?
