If mainstream movies use the trope of the bullied villain, does that mean that being bullied is mainstream now?

Pretty much every shounen anime. Bad guy does bad stuff, MC converts him, says he is sorry about war crimes, all is forgiven. Joins the the good guys but somehow is much weaker than before
