Pretty much every shounen anime. Bad guy does bad stuff, MC converts him, says he is sorry about war crimes, all is forgiven. Joins the the good guys but somehow is much weaker than before
It's a common trope in all media. Alessandro Manzoni did that with The Unnamed in the 1800s
