people do not realize how big of a waste this propriatory garbage produces. in the past, post-corporate computers/devices were a great way to get some decent hardware for fair price. hardware that was no longer useful in offices or schools but could still serve extra years at home. old, worn down thinkpads with extra upgrades were great for that. just add some ram, a ssd, maybe the cpu before socketed mobile cpus were completely murdered because "omfg thin" and "but nobody changes cpu anyway lol". picking up a bottom end celeron laptop and upgrading to a high end c2d after all parts became cheap as dirt was a nice experience.

forget about all of that tho, because despite climate change fucking us over and resource scarcity is creeping in, WE NEED TO CONSUME and produce economical growth that will benefit big companies, who have no obligations other than profit for shareholders.

am i really that insane?

This is bad reporting. The SSD isn't locked by Apple. The problem is that the disk is encrypted with the TPM, so you can't just swap the drives between computers or it can't be decrypted.

After swapping the drives you need to reinstall the OS with the new encryption key then everything works fine.
