It's early, but you could be right. AOC does have a much quicker release I think.
Las Vegas Raiders
No doubt, he’s got skills. But his footwork and accuracy goes to shit at the first sign of pressure. He could develop but seems like a typical high floor low ceiling backup
Well Mcgloin is a politician now. Would be fitting for AOC.
He’s only had 4 starts 🤦
r/woosh
Aside from Stroud, which rookie QB is clearly outplaying him. He’s solid in short and intermediate situations, but the deep ball is a struggle. If he develops into a capable game manager and backup, that’s a win. Look at all the QBs going down this season. We still need to draft someone in the top half of round 1 next year-
Just about every QB is outplaying him.
Only Bryce young, Tommy devito, Zach Wilson, and Daniel Jones averaged a lower epa per play than what AOC has.
Only bryce young and Desmond ridder have averaged a lower PFF grade.
Richardson pre injury Levis has flashed much more potential Bryce Young is way more talented he just has a dog shit offensive roster. Put AOC on the panthers and he would be getting absolutely slaughtered.
All in all Aiden is playing pretty decent, but he also has extremely talented skill players
He will make a solid backup and occasional starter. He doesn't have the it factor.
Six games left. Plenty of time to evaluate. Maybe he improves and he's the guy of the future, maybe he doesn't and we draft someone next year. Really is too early to tell.
Yes, realistically you are correct. I was just drawing parallels to the short time period where some of us thought mcgloin was the future
Wish we’d draft O-line help and lots of it, whoever ends up being our future franchise QB is gonna need time and protection.
Give him a chance to undo the damage of being a 3rd-string QB under JMD. It’s been like 4 games, with plenty of upside. He’s better than Bryce Young and way cheaper, you act like the next person we draft is guaranteed to be better.
A cheap 4th round salary qb with a great defense is how you win a Super Bowl, and we could have that if we just improve some over the offseason.
And give Jalen Ramsey credit, 2 of the interceptions yesterday were just insanely good defense.
He is not better than the number one overall pick, you’re on crack. Bryce Young’s best receiver would be on our practice squad…
He’s doing better lol, I don’t where they were picked.
Aidan is more talented than McGloin was, but if he's the "QB of the future", the Raiders future is in the toilet. The upcoming draft has more talented options at the QB position.
Precisely. It’s far too early to deem Mr. O’Connell our franchise quarterback as many were already declaring as of last week.
Some of our beloved Nation’s members act like Fanny packs and have a real issue getting far too attached to quarterbacks.
Equally, it’s also far too early to deem him a career back up. We need a larger sample size. The correct answer is allowing Mr. O’Connell to develop the rest of the season and also draft a quarterback out of this sensational QB draft class. We will allow them to compete for the right to start next season.
This is the most reasonable take I've seen so far. Problem is that we may play our way out of picking one of the "sure fire" prospects. At that point do we build the lines and pick up a QB in the 2nd or 3rd?
It’s just too early to tell imo
Projecting a rookie QB’s career trajectory after 4 starts, one of which he was doomed to fail because of his coaches, is a bit premature.
I agree with everyone saying “draft a QB”, but AOC still has time to prove his potential. He could develop into a good middle of the pack QB, or he could be a career backup, we just don’t know until we know
This is exactly how we all felt about Mcgloin in 2013-2015
For me, I'm just tired of not having a somewhat mobile qb. They dominate the league, I want one.
AOC was a JMD choice so I’d rather move on sooner than later
Completing 50% is not enough
I don’t give a fuck who drafted him, if he provides value to the team, keep him. AOC clearly belongs in the league, whether he’s a long term starter is still TBD
Aidan O'Connell is Aidan O'Connell. He's more internal drive to get better than most. It's too early to write him off.
Lmao, he's a 4th round pick that's had a horrible coach. He was the third qb that got no reps. In his 1st game the coach didn't prep him, instead told him he was the starter on a Friday with out reps with the 1s.
Give the kid time, no one knows what he is yet.
I agree. He’s been awesome given the circumstances, and he absolutely needs to start the rest of the season. We also need to draft a first round QB in April because he’s more likely to be Matt Mcgloin than Tom Brady or Brock Purdy.
You dont know football if you say this. There are ex NFL QBs on youtube that say Aidan does great things that vets dont even do. You got like Kenny Pickett who you know is never going to be great because he doesnt have any flashes of greatness. He's just solid. Aidan has flashes of greatness. But also flashes of rookie because THATS WHAT HE IS! Macgloin was making rookie mistakes when he wasnt a rookie! Adians footwork is already really good for most of the game. Pocket awareness and reads will come with experience.
Keep in mind he's had to play his 2 hardest opponents without one of the best LTs in the game. Please stop with the emotional wah wah bogus comparisons just because you're upset we lost.
Quality backups are valuable now, hopefully he finishes strong and has a role on this team. Even if he’s a bridge qb I like him more than any options.
Hmmm. Interesting. I think he has a better arm and little more height, but McGloin was way more mobile. I think O’Connell needs the right kind of system and a good line, which our is not. You’re probably right but early with this opinion.
I agree, simply because I said this after we drafted him. Hes a low ceiling/high floor player. Already 25 years old, not going to magically acquire new found mobility but smart enough to give you a chance in a pinch. Take away the Giants game, which was set up by multiple turnovers…he’s scored 17, 16, and 13 points in his three starts. 15.3 ppg has been in line with who we are. I think he can be solid…he’s never going to be elite
lol this sub is wild
Jesus christ on a crutch its a rookies 3rd start and two of those picks were forcing it to Adams ( not a bad plan) in high leverage situations. The kid is a good decision maker give him a chance for Christ's sake. He threw for 271 on the road against a good defense with friggin Jalen Ramsey covering his #1 option.
That’s a hot take but we’ll see
Imagine saying the same about Manning or Lawrence after 4 starts. Mahomes hadn't even played this time. Let Aidan play until the end.
Everybody you just named was a first round pick and two of them were seen as can’t miss, generational talents who went #1 overall. Aiden Oconnel is a 25 year old 4th round pick. Comparing him to those three after four starts is some smooth brain delusion.
I feel AOC could be the next Chase Daniels.
This might be a better comparison tbh.
He's probably just a good backup in this league
