Those are all very fair points. I just haven't seen much evidence of our better nature winning out lately.

You are correct. My apologies. I tend to presume that most people here are similar is likes/dislikes to me. That's a me problem.

Trump is all about pretenses.

There are the "reasons" he's making those decisions, and then there are the "pretenses" he uses when the opportunity comes around to make them.

Swiss banks hold a lot of money from oligarchs and billionaires. Putin wants pressure put on them. But Trump has to find the "pretense" to do it so as to at least nominally not be seen as a russian asset. But what a coincidence, Lindt announces that they're going to supply Canada directly from Europe to avoid his tariffs. And BOOM. Pretense established.

I don't think we can change our base responses, to be honest.

I think throughout history we've shown that we can mask our tribal responses to maintain a veneer of civilisation. But that at the end of the day, that's all it is. It's a mask waiting for permission from someone like Trump to be cast aside.

I agree with you about tribalism being our greatest weakness. In fact I firmly believe that that is the ultimate answer to the Drake Equation. Their are no species capable of interstellar travel because the Great Filter of tribalism prevents any society from reaching the globalism necessary to ultimately achieve it. As an Archaeology major (a long long time ago, to be fair), the very tribalism that allowed us to dominate this world, is the same tribalism that will keep us ultimately from leaving it.

  • The BSG remake series is the GOAT
  • TNG and Voyager. (Never got into DS9...too much religious hibbidy-jibbidy and scenery chewing from Sisko...come at me, bro.)
  • Stargate Atlantis (And of course SG1, though on the whole I think Atlantis was the superior show)
  • Bojack Horseman (Because I credit that show for finally getting a handle on my own mental health)

And yes...I realise the hypocrisy of not liking DS9 because of its religious hibbidy-jibbidy, but calling BSG the GOAT. I have no answer for you. Maybe the Bajoran religion itself was just stupid.

"Parties" are inevitable just by simple human nature. It's the same reason cliques exist in highschool; We gravitate towards people we agree with and eventually (either purposefully or not) begin to align our decision making.

It's a "block party"!

I'll show myself out.

This is the one I found closest to my mothers. She herself doesn't ever write down HER particular measurements.

Nope. It retains enough salt to add to the unique taste. It just has to be dried and preserved in salt that then has to be removed. It gives the cod it's ability to break apart into the casserole.

Ah. My bad. Got overexcited and skipped to the end. Sorry about that.
