At this point, nah. Might get her to chill the fuck out though.

Part of why this snape is cool is it's satire/copyright infringement by a pot activist. Image taken from "Hairy Pothead # 4 - Hairy vs. Narco", written by Dana Larsen and illustrated by Trystan Mitchell. This actually isn't Snape, given that - it is Professor Vacuous Vape, extractions teacher at Hempwards School of Herbcraft and Weedery.

On a t-break, but for some reason digging into the pot activism figures of my past and what they're doing now. It's a mixture of fascinating and awful (though Dana seems to be doing OKish). Edit: whoops, spoke too soon - https://vancouversun.com/news/dana-larsen-cannabis-dispensaries-raided-january-2025

Between both, and keeping in mind the Liberapay donors may be doing recurring contributions rather than a lump sum for the year (so may need to stop if something comes up for them), we're looking at about $1250 give or take for 2025 so far. Nice!

Edit: Did the Liberapay weekly rate x 47 weeks for remaining year, but forgot to add the Ko Fi amount. Dur.

Edit edit: Please feel free to correct me if I'm reading the Ko Fi stuff wrong.

They are vastly superior to Cheetos and I have thrown down over this.

Agreed, though for whatever reason when I do watch it, it only reminds me of how much I miss Royal Canadian Air Farce.

Pfft, there's no cookies in meditation. Hard pass.

Man, that's a grade A beef. Or wait, is it? This keeps happening and how the hell are we going to know!?

[Yes, I'm making cheap jokes as the U.S crumbles. Yes, I feel this is necessary.]

If you want to see what that looks like in the relevant context here (Canada), check out what lemmy.ca is doing (fedecan.ca). Would be curious if there's non-Canadian instances taking this approach too.

I assume there's at least some tax benefits/less of a tax liability to TheDude if doing this, but likely requires an additional level of support from folks too for the adminstrative aspects of that.

Checked it out, it is truly the sh.it. Definitely a nice lookin' frontend!

[Edit: played the usual period placement game and this time I lost, it was a working link to something. Fixed.]

Reading some deets:
Liberapay - does not take a cut of payments, the service is funded by donations to its own account. However, there are payment processing fees. The fees vary by payment processor, payment methods, countries, and currencies. In the last year, the average fee percentages have been 3.1% for the payments processed by Stripe and 5.1% for the payments processed by Paypal.

Ko-fi - No fee for one-off donations, 5% platform fee to use premium features/become a Ko-Fi contributor (basically, if TheDude and co give Ko-Fi a 5% cut in exchange for premium Ko-Fi features for TheDude and co). 5% on monthly donations, other stuff at same % that I don't think is relevant here. Normal payment processor fees apply (usually around 3% + $0.30)

My short verdict: Not a huge difference if doing one bigger donation at a time, go with Liberapay if you intend to do regular scheduled donations and maybe avoid Paypal if you can. Or whatever makes more sense, I'm far from a crowdfunding expert.

I don't think an instance-level ban is necessary at this stage, ever since thinking more about it after a similar discussion on a .ml post.

What I'd much prefer to see is a move on the part of users to use alternate methods for sharing Twitter content: links to reputable archive services or alternate frontends for Twitter (I lack a lot of knowledge in this area, but xcancel stuff, whatever libredirect does, etc.), or screenshots. In this order. Sometimes something comes up in the Twitterverse that is worthy of sharing, where pointing to the source is important for verification. But there are steps that can satisfy that without necessarily direct linking to Twitter, or that being presented as the only access medium to other users.

I'd think about this more at the level of courtesy (or good sh.it.iquette, if you will) than a hard rule. Won't get your comment/post deleted if there's no community rule but will have someone jump in with a not-direct-to-Twitter link/pic and some light (I'd hope) ribbing.

I support any community that makes it a hard rule at the community level, though. And if it came to pass at the instance level it's not like I'd leave sh.itjust.works over it - I can't see Twitter posts anyway, just a log in screen.

Darkness as your eyes close -> Probably some cool shit as your brain functions start shutting down -> literally nothing.

It's a weird phenomenon, and while I'm willing to chalk it up to material causes (drug interactions or related blackouts, etc.), the few times I've experienced it have felt so drastically different than similar states I've experienced I still think about them once and a while. Have you had one, and while you may have chalked it up to a rational cause still aren't 100% satisfied with that conclusion (or have chalked it up to something else entirely? Interested in those stories too, but while I won't do it know others may dunk on you).

I have two stories:

-Many years ago, I invited a girl to my place to hang out. We smoked some weed, a normal amount for us, and ordered a pizza. We were chatting normally, then all of a sudden it was three hours later. The pizza guy came and went, and both of us couldn't account for the lost time.

Rational conclusion: We smoked weed and fell asleep.

Things that make this uncomfortable: We were both pretty experienced pot smokers, and for my part while I had fallen asleep smoking pot before, it's usually accompanied with a period of waking up. This was more a sudden "Hey, wait, something's off" experience while still sitting up. And it happened to both of us.

-About a year ago, I visited a bar late and had (to my recollection) about 4 beers. Again, this is within normal thresholds, though I have drank to blackout before. I left the bar and caught a bus home.

As I was getting out of the uber in front of my house, I thought "Wait a second, didn't I get on the bus?". I had my map tracking on (I know, dumb, but in this case useful), and apparently I got off the bus, and about 15 minutes later grabbed an uber. I had no recollection of this.

Rational conclusion: Between the lateness of the hour, level of tiredness and alcohol, I hit a blackout threshold much lower than I've experienced before, got confused with late night bus routing and hopped off to grab an uber instead.

Things that make this uncomfortable: it was not an expected amount of beer that would lead to this, and based on how I felt the next morning (pretty normal but tired) I don't think I drank more than I accounted for here. As an aside, where I got off was interesting - there's an old motel that's in a kind of weird spot in a very gentrified area of my town (motel was operating before this period). Always caught my attention, but I've never had any reason whatsoever to go there. According to the map, I was there for the 15 minutes. That said, looking at the map, my pickup location on the uber app, and noting exact positioning is often off by a bit on the map app, it was likely a coincidence and I was at a nearby intersection, with the map pinging this because it was a nearby landmark.

Again, ultimately I chalk these up to rational causes, but there's something about them that give me pause anyway. Would love to hear stories from other folks who've had experiences like this and what explanations they've landed on.

Just saw this on AskLemmy at .ml, thought this and chuckled, and now here we are.

Will take the opportunity to thank our admins for what they do, and all you humans for being here and generally being cool.

Been through this before, so I know it gets better eventually, but what do you folks generally do to optimize beddy-bye time? To the insomniacs, what are some things you do in the wee hours/early morning for a relaxing start to your day?

This morning's choice is checking out the music of Casiopea - saw them mentioned in a meme here recently, then later on saw one of my favourite gig spaces has a great local fusion jazz band doing a show covering them at the end of the month. Very chill, feels like menu music of a mid-90s Japanese 3D game in a very good way, lol. Funny how these things happen sometimes, kinda like seeing the car model you just bought everywhere on the road shortly after purchase.

Edit: IT'S OK GUYS HE'S FLOATING AGAIN! https://imgchest.com/p/n87we93kq7x

I write this with homemade maple jalapeno cornbread in my mouth, gifted to me by the bar staff at my local pub this evening. This is simultaneously the best and most unexpected thing I've ever brought home from a bar, my significant other excepted.

This got me thinking: what is the weirdest thing you've brought home from the bar, Lemmy?

Cipher Sunday! (sh.itjust.works)

Tired of Wordle? Sick of feeling stupid at the behest of the NYT crossword editor? Looking for anything new to enjoy with your Sunday coffee other than chatting with your loved ones/cat/the void? This is the post for you!

There's all sorts of codes and ciphers in the Gravity Falls world. Why not take some time to try and solve them yourself? You could just look up answers in Google, but where's the fun in that?

What you should Google is 'gravity falls cipher keys'. Give it an honest try yourself, then come back to share your answer!

Today's selection comes from the depths of thisisnotawebsitedotcom.com. Assuming I'm arsed to do this again, future selections may come from there, the Book of Bill, Journal 3, the show itself, or maybe something custom! Have fun!
