We can only dream.

We have family back in India and someone died from covid, but that still wasn't enough to convince the antivaxxers in my family here in the UK.

My mum ended up on a ventilator, because she got brainwashed by them into thinking it's no big deal and covid isn't even real, it's just a cold (she was in the shielding group). Then one of the most insane members of my family tried to convince my dad to tell the doctors to take my mum off the ventilator, because the ventilator is a big conspiracy and will kill her. Luckily another family member got wind of it and intervened. My mum pulled through but was weakened by long covid.

Some of these people are truly unhinged. They're so detached from reality, it's unbelievable.

Another example is the YouTuber Sheeps and Neeps. He was a flat earther, so of course it followed he was into all the anti-science stuff. He got cancer, put his money where his mouth was, and did his own "natural" treatment. He died.

Does that mean he's toast?

Only the Jubilee line has them here in London. They're a good feature. There was talk of bringing them to other lines, but I've not heard any update on that in years.

It's all part of his cleverly crafted persona. Just like him using his middle name. The average Brit doesn't know that the real man is Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, who used to burn £50 notes in front of homeless people for fun.

Remember this guy wanted to invade the Netherlands.

This time it's the US that's 4 years behind. You have your own Dominic Cummings and everything.

I'm the same. I need time to process and phone calls with customers stress me.

But I also have this weird thing where I'll suddenly become very scared to check my email for weeks or even months.

I saw this anxiety simulator recommended by people with anxiety and I can't relate to it at all. This is not what I'm thinking at all. And now it makes sense why the therapist was struggling. She needed to fit me into one of those boxes, except I didn't fit. So she tried her best to shove me into the low self esteem box.

Edit: this one too

I think the point of it is more to explain to people who think the spectrum means this side is NT and this side is "severe" autism, and the spectrum is anything in between. For a while I thought this was what it meant too.

So I like that this explains to people who think that, that the spectrum doesn't work that way.

I think of the spectrum more as a circular rainbow, and you can occupy a bit from this side, maybe a larger segment from that part, maybe a bit more over there.

Maybe defining the autism spectrum is as complex as defining a neurotypical spectrum 🤷🏽‍♀️

I've never liked living in London. I'd like it as a place to visit, because of all the museums and so many free things to do, but I don't like living here. It's too busy and impersonal. I love that we have good public transport so you can live your whole life without ever needing a car. But I'd rather live in a smaller place where there's more of a sense of community.

Or even something like this works.

autism spectrum

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

She said she got tested and she wasn't (she said she has an ADHD diagnosis).

It's not so much whether she's ND, it was the way she invalidated the autistic community's struggles with that dumb take. You can't bully people and then try to excuse it by saying, we're all on the spectrum, I was just playing.

Relevant part at 16mins.

B**** literally traumatises people by forcing their phobia on them, humiliates people on air, forces people to disclose pregnancies, and that's just the stuff we've seen in public. That's not autism, that's sadism. No contrition, no admission that she was in the wrong. And her trying to get an autism diagnosis to excuse that really ticks me off.

Not his first attempt, but I want to do whatever I can to encourage him to stay on the wagon this time. I don't have any experience of this, so I'd appreciate any tips from those who have been there already.

Edit 02/10: he's still clean!

Wow, the difference in quality between the Squier and the Donner is incredible. It just feels so much smoother to play, I don't get the rattle and it just sounds and feels better overall. I'm confused by the reviews comparing the Donner to a p-bass. There's no comparison. I'm so glad I finally got my hands on my mini! It looks like a doll's toy next to the standard scale though!

Oh and added bonus, the tone dial actually does something.

I'm still having trouble offloading my Donner. I can't even trade it in.

From a Joinen video.

And there's still this much battery left. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. I wasn't expecting it to still have any power left at all. I suppose with the sim out, all it was doing was powering the clock, but still! Unfortunately, I've had to retire it as my network won't connect on it anymore.

In Series 1, the show centred around the Garrisons, but featured enough of the other characters too. Matt Garrison was the natural leader of the band. He was basically the everyman character. He was the one who didn't get involved in the silliness of the other boys (Wooing Woo was incredibly OOC, Series 1 Matt would have stayed out of it), and he was the one who kept the band together.

Then they brought in Jake Somers.

I don't think Jake was a terrible character, but his addition to the show changed the dynamics too much. Sure, the band might have needed a second guitarist at times, but other than that, he wasn't needed as a permanent member. He came in and suddenly it wasn't about the Garrison family anymore, but about Jake. Matt goes from being the nice-but-assertive one to becoming Richie Cunningham to Jake's Fonz. Even though he was still the lead singer and nominal frontman of the band, Matt was constantly in Jake's shadow. Rather than being the natural leader of his own band, he was now intimidated by Jake.

I really don't blame Brentley Gore for bowing out after Series 2. If you look at the character of Mark Winkle, that's what would have happened to Matt and the actor saw that, and I'm glad he got to go before his character was completely wrecked.

The makeup of the band was just ridiculous once the Garrisons were written out. Jenny and Tiffani both had very different voices. I don't think Jenny could ever truly have been replaced, and while I liked the character of Sam, her voice was too similar to Tiffani's. She lacked the strength and depth of Jenny's vocals and it all became quite samey. Try to imagine her singing Castles on Quicksand or This Time... Do you see what I mean?

Replacing Matt with Mark was the single most pointless addition to the show (yes, even more pointless than Lorena). Matt was lead male vocalist and lead guitarist. So to replace Matt, they would need another lead male vocalist/guitarist. Except we now have Sam on keys and Jake on guitar and lead male vocals... and Mark on keys and backing vocals... except they didn't need another keyboard player, nor another male vocalist. He was redundant in the band. There was no point to him at all.

Also, I don't like the way Tony was sidelined in favour of Mark. There was the episode where he wrote a song for Sam, and it was still "Jake" singing it, even though we know Tony is a competent singer. They could have put Mark to use and put him on drums while Tony took the mic, as there was at least one episode where we see Mark on drums.

The problem with writing out the Garrisons is that the show then became nothing more than another high school sitcom. To me, Jake would have worked better as a solo act. There could have been a friendly rivalry between him and the Dreams, and sometimes they could even have roped him in when they needed a second guitarist.

The thing I disliked about Jake becoming the leader of the band is how he ruled by dominance, unlike Matt, who led because he was well liked and respected by the other band members. Jake was an outright bully to Sly, and while you might argue that Sly could be a jerk, he honestly wasn't that bad and he did have a conscience, even if he was fond of fighting it! Most of the time, he did mean well. You had characters walking on eggshells around Jake and that's not the sign of a good leader. I think Jake would have worked much better if Jenny had stuck around. She would have given as good as she got and kept him in check. They also made a much better couple than Jake and Tiffani.

Yeah, that relationship. At first, it seemed sweet: the tough guy and the ditzy surfer girl, but as the series went on, I didn't like the coupling at all. Tiffani seemed to lose her perky and fun personality, and while you would expect her to mellow out and mature a bit as she got older, I think a lot of it was down to Jake. It was too intense and for me, it just seemed a bit too OTT, and it made Tiffani fade.

At the end of Series 1, I actually thought Matt and Tiffani would be end-game (he did seem to like blondes!). There were several hints througout Series 1, but that's for another post!

If you could pick up to 13 tracks for a greatest hits album, which would you pick? Here's my selection, in no particular order:

  1. California Dreams
  2. She's Not You (Matt)
  3. If You Only Knew
  4. Into the Tube
  5. Rain
  6. Must be Love (Matt)
  7. Next Big Thing
  8. This Time
  9. Too Much to Dream
  10. Castles on Quicksand
  11. Love is Not Like This
  12. Everybody's Got Someone
  13. So Glad I Was There (and I would totally get Matt to re-record the lead vocals)

Sadly no Tiffani songs made it in, though I do like her ones (even Let me be the one! It's cheesy as heck, but fun).

Enjoy!

Some of their songs are inspired by popular songs. Here are the ones I know of:

California Dreams - Seems to have a Beach Boys influence

This Time - Johnny Hates Jazz - Shattered Dreams

So Glad I Was There - The Beatles - In My Life

I'm sure there are more! What others can you think of?
