Sadly hexbear doesn't have a ton of really active comms specific to women. Though at least they're very aggressive removing misogyny across the instance. It's been categorically less stressful posting on hexbear vs the rest of lemmy simply because I'm not then checking an inbox with replies/dms calling me 'removed' or 'it' or other charming insults.

Removing downvotes makes sense too, though I also like keeping them and using them to ban people abusing it. The voter is only visible to admins though.

Jordan straight up posted a matt walsh/libs of tiktok video as a derisive jab, posting transphobic shit gets you banned.

If you're unwilling to call people by what they ask to be called on a trans instance you're gonna get banned.

when I say 'fediverse' people think I'm saying 'fetiverse' and sometimes they ask if it's like open source fetlife. 🫠

I've been having a ton of fun, I like the cultural exchange a lot.

Personally I don't care if China has data on me, it's not like it's useful for them and I'd rather them than meta or the US government or whoever.

There's also way more queer/trans content than I was expecting.

There was a primary this time around and it was even more of a farce than usual. The party just straight up ignored all the people voting uncommitted, to all of our detriment.

People did not do whatever they think should have happened and thus I will name call them.

I don't actually understand what this is saying.

Either way this isn't the place for a back and forth on this kind of thing, so I won't be discussing the election further.

To steer back to your original topic though, you seem accustomed to the type of censorship of the left that's typical on Reddit. Many of the people that are here are specifically here because the left wing communities they were participating in were systematically removed from reddit.

The reality is in a place like this sometimes you're going to hear dissenting opinions, unless you're very selective in your instance and only browse local.

“People don’t vote for my side so I’ll say they’re enabling fascism!”

iconic, I've been repeatedly told by liberals that because I voted third party that I'm essentially a trump voter.

that wasn't what was said though.

they said that liberals created the material conditions for fascism. i.e. by suppressing the left and only offering up warmongering and genocide they created a situation where someone like trump could get elected. again.

a fair number of the people who are on this platform are here specifically because oligarch-owned media sites heavily censor all left wing speech, and have done so for many years.

I can be a bit melodramatic and sassy, also like making music and looking good. Long-time fan miku fan too.

I'm also a trans woman, I don't think you should look for anything specific that went wrong. There was always going to be an out-group to blame for all of societies woes. I've been saying since 10/7 that if we're willing to just accept what's happening there (in Palestine) then it's just a matter of time until normalization of dehumanizing people like that blows back in our faces over here.

The last few years have been revelatory. I lost a chunk of my personal friend group after 10/7, it pushed me to instead more actively connect with other trans people in my locality in person. I've circulated memes to the effect prior to the election and because of that experience I wasn't surprised to see liberals jumping right to blaming trans people for their failures after this election.

Mutual aid and solidarity across impacted groups is going to be important in the years ahead. All we can do is be prepared as best we can and look to our allies and whatever community we can build.

It turns out it was a coincidence, they even reverted the ban on me in the end too.

The two bans still strike me as a good example of archetypes of heavy-moderation action taken in different context. Shutting down a dissenting voice on a general/news board vs shutting down someone behaving badly in a more regulated space. I don't even want to give the .world moderator who banned me a hard time, because I know how hard it can be trying to figure out what is going on in a conversation that just got reported by a bunch of people. The fact that they reverted it after pushback was enough for me, and hopefully it sets an example for the future.

There's definitely a separate discussion to be had about the tendency to shut down dissent from the left in centrist/liberal spaces and characterizing it instead as 'right-wing/russian trolling.' Maybe that's more comforting than sitting with the criticism, but I don't think it's a productive way to approach political conversations.

I actually spend a good chunk of my weeks on organizing work, in addition to my job. I think I'm allowed to fry my brain reading dogshit takes on the Lemmy in my spare time.

2014 throwback:

They were never my favorite band. I hate the lyrics, but I like the sound.

-- Paul Ryan to NYT when asked if he was a fan of rage against the machine

Not sure if this is better or worse than JD:

spoiler

Don’t mistake me, I clearly see that Ryan has a whole lotta “rage” in him: A rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment. Basically the only thing he’s not raging against is the privileged elite he’s groveling in front of for campaign contributions.
