Agreed. It feels like a bunch of people broadcasting to the void with megaphones. Threaded forums are 100x better

I was watching Weather West on YouTube, who said coastal Southern California hadn’t seen a tropical storm landing since 1939

I’m from the area. Another “fun” fact I saw on KGW News this morning:

The six hottest August overnight lows have all been in 2021-2023. Last night’s tied the 73 record for the day. The hottest low ever was during the 2021 heat dome where it only got down to 75 overnight (in June)

Battlestar Galactica (the reboot

Thanks for reminding me. I need to re-watch that sometime.

[–] FrostBolt@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Good. I remember it being shitty when I was forced to use it at a company a couple years ago

What holds up to re-watches?

I’m just here for the thumbnail

Industry figures said US orange production would reach its lowest level for more than a century.

It seems like over the last year or so, Amazon has made the calculation that they can save 10 cents on not packing things properly, and only 0.1% of customers will be bothered enough to return the item*.

For many basic consumer goods, like a new spatula or something, it doesn't matter. But when I'm spending $40, $60, $70 on a nice hobby RPG book or a board game, it sucks to have it arrive with all the corners smashed in.

So I finally ordered my most recent core rulebook from a random FLGS in another state. And... it arrived beautifully packed and without damage!

This may not be an earth-shattering revelation for many people; however, it sure felt good to me to take a small stand. :-D

Incidentally, I spent ~$7 more overall on the purchase. But for me it was totally worth it.

It's a new system whose Kickstarter raised $1.3 million since February. I'm curious about it but would like to hear more people's thoughts.

Edit: with Mintyytea's help, I figured out how to do it:

  1. Go to https://kbin.social/m/newcommunities@lemmy.world
  2. Use the plus (+) button in the upper right of the kbin UI to add the article

I believe one of the Lemmy instances has a "newcommunities" forum, but I'm not sure if kbin has something similar

Thanks

a buddy and I have been getting close, but keep failing to achieve it

Did you ever have that feeling on reddit of "I better word my post just right, otherwise AutoMod will take it down"? Some subs had such strict auto moderating that it was a crap shoot to post something. Not so here. I know there's value in moderation, and I'm sure Lemmy/kbin/etc. will add more of it with time. But, for now, it was just nice to not be nervous when I was submitting a post here.

The Sunday morning before the subs going dark:

The following Saturday morning/as I write this:
