Good. Fuckem. As a former federal employee myself, I can say with confidence that I have never worked with a more worthless, self serving bunch of inept check collectors than I have trying to deal with federal employees from the inside. HR is completely ineffectual. Administration has its head so far up its own ass they can see teeth. IT is constantly isolated, discouraged, and blamed for inefficiency they can do nothing about. I was just a dumb dumb welder and even I was off put by how chaotic every day ended up being due to miscommunication and ineptitude. Unpaid OT, meal break violations, employee rights violations, its all there every day and nobody cares. When I spoke up about my experience, I was shitcanned for not shutting up and taking my lumps. When I went to the union, I was told they're too poor to actually make waves. I hope every federal employee has a very nice get fucked for the rest of their careers in the government.

Same as normal but you chose the status quo rather than having it enforced upon you.

Jack Smith ran away and hid rather than fight. These employees kept quietly writing reports instead of moving forward with critical action. Hell, I'd even take a whistleblower. Are we seeing any of that? Ofc not. They're all cowards carefully hired by further cowards precisely to protect their status quo.

Source: i am a former federal employee whose rights were repeatedly violated and who was shitcanned when I made myself heard. Nobody is interested in pursuing my rights violations because nobody has jurisdiction over anyone else. Burn the whole system to the ground.

Why limit yourself to real materials? Just whip up a few hundred thousand miles of superconducting cable and then set your price.

If you have to quibble about things being possible, just figure out graphene batteries/capacitors and you're set forever.

Pornography is never bad news. Normalize more pornography in your life

Ohhhhh. With the thing under the platter it looks like a stainless steel dog bowl.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Why is it in a dog bowl?

No no no. Most of these yachts are aluminum hull. What you need is a scraper for the paint and a syringe full of gallium. Actually you could probably just scratch up a hull with a soap block of gallium and it'd do the trick. Gallium eats aluminum like cancer.

In the words of Brennan, laws are just threats made by the socioeconomic elite and enforced by the slave catcher class (police).

I think I'm gonna have to write it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think this is what I'd call close but no cigar. My main difference is I want humanity to be the ancient machine mind makers, with said machine minds being in the image of man, but molded to our old beliefs regarding gods. We made many minds for the many gods, and they outlasted our species. Now it's just the gods maintaining what humanity left behind, maybe interacting with new sentient species that have found the remnants of humanity and are studying them. One of these days I think I'm just going to have to write this big messy bastard out myself

I like space war but space politics sounds really dumb. I want Neolithic cultures on pseudo ringworlds slung on planetary tethers down to supermind AI machine worlds beyond their wildest comprehension built by the star gods left behind in the wake of the human species.

Is that too much to ask?

Looking for recommendations for series with rebellion as a main focus. I want a MC that tells the elder council, noble assembly, ancient wizard circle, whatever high and mighty force to go to hell with their suggestions and orders. I liked the Embers of illeniel series where the MC decided to burn the whole world when he got the power to do it. I like the immortal great souls series where all authority is rightly viewed with suspicion. What else do you fine connoisseurs have for me?

I'm sorry to post again. I tried finding a "lastimages" lemmy but I couldn't.

Bear was laid to rest at 10:50am 16th of September 2024. I had him for 15 and a half beautiful years. We went for walks just about every day and he was the king of his block. Neighbors and friends come and go but my stinky man was always finding something to smell in the next bush. Even when the weather was against him, he could always sneak around and find something new stuck to grandma's shoes.

He loved nothing more than salmon, PINK salmon (none of that red or smoked nonsese), and so he ate pink salmon every day he could. His kibbles were never empty for long and the house just wasnt right if he didn't have at least 3 different glasses to drink from at any time. Though we bought him beds and blankets enough to supply a small army, he loved sleeping on news paper more than anything else. Something about inconveniencing the humans by weight of his sheer existence I'm sure.

We bothered him constantly his last two days, making him absolutely sick of us. We pet and loved him every moment of these last two days, and I held him sleeping on my chest for hours this morning. I don't think he could possibly have been more fed up with our emotional human nonsense if we'd tried. But I stayed with him every last second, and the last thing he could see when his eyes dilated was me.

I will never stop loving my boy.

Pretty sure I'm going to have to put my beautiful baby boy to rest on Monday. He's been getting very lethargic and lost his appetite. Spent 48 hours at the vet and he was treated for pancreatitis, kidney disease, and now we find heart failure. He's back home with all the meds he could need and he's comfortable.

He's my 17 year old very special boy. We've been extremely lucky with only 2 minor health issues that needed vet care and otherwise normal visits with clean bills of health. He's always been very strong (if very picky when it comes to eating) and he's been with me through the death of my mother and father.

Im honestly feeling pretty lost right now, but every time I look at him I can't help but feel it's time. He's got the best chance the vet can give him, but I still don't want to watch him suffer.

I really don't have much faith, but if you do, please pray for Bear.

Edit: Bear was laid to rest at 10:50am. It was extremely fast and he was so out of it he barely felt a thing. His suffering is over and so mine begins.

Good ol BrandoSando has screwed the community again. First, he announces the secret project and promises us new stories. Then, he "boycotts" amazon with JUST THESE COMMUNITY FUNDED STORIES. Now, he's making money on books we bought without letting us utilize the accessibility features we've come to expect from his other work unless we pay him again.

Tl;Dr Brandon Sanderson is an exploitative greed monster that swallowed 43 million dollars and is hungry for more. Do not buy Brandon Sanderson products until this betrayal is addressed.

Spotify just changed their TOS, giving them unprecedented rights to create "derivative works" from audiobooks

They frame it as though it's for user content, more likely it's to train AI, but in fact it gives them the right to do almost anything they want - up to (but not including) stealing the content outright.
