But what about housing? If you live in a shoebox with no hope of getting a larger place, it's unlikely that you're gonna have kids.

biologically speaking, the children of rich parents are much more likely to be born rich themselves
Bro, what? Biologically speaking? What are you talking about?
The kids of rich people are rich because their parents are rich. They grow up to be rich because they have their parents wealth, which they either use to create more, or just stay rich.
The fact that they're rich has nothing to do with their "biology".
What are you proposing anyway? That only rich people procreate and then somehow eventually everyone will be rich? If you can do simple math like addition and subtraction, you'll realize that that scenario is not possible.
I wouldn't hold out hope that any of them would change their mind to be honest. Those people would never vote differently, they'll just vote in the next MAGA idiot.
I've been lurking r/conservative a bit since the election, and every time Trump, Musk or their cronies do something bad, it's either not posted (though maybe it's being removed), or if it's outrageous enough, it's always the same story:
At first they're like "I don't know about this one guys...", but they're quick to correct course with "I know this looks bad, but Trump knows what he's doing and we don't have enough information to judge yet".
And then after a day or so, when the marching orders come from Fox and the like, it's "This is a genius 4D chess move, anybody who doesn't see it is a low IQ libtard".
Then there's inevitably infighting - anybody who isn't following the new narrative is a leftist who's infiltrated the sub, old comments which were sceptical at first get deleted and new posts on the same topic get posted where all the comments are praising Trump. They cry about brigading, mods purge the users and post stickies on how they're planning to handle it in the future (and beg for donations).
Then the next thing happens - wash and repeat.
A lot of comments start with users trying to convince others that they are a true conservative, afraid to say anything slightly critical of Trump or Musk. The purism is in full swing. They really can't accept that anything Trump or his admin does, no matter how outrageous, could be bad.
It's like the whole sub is going through cognitive dissonance.
It would be really interesting if it weren't so sad.
Like I already said, no, they do not. The sales volume was lower on the days before and after too. The boycott actually changed consumer habits for a while there - people were buying only what they needed and refrained from all other spending.
I mean if you refrain from going to a cafe bar on friday, it's not like you are going to make up for it on saturday. Same goes for all "luxury" items basically.
Spreading defeatist comments and pessimism, saying that this won't accomplish anything anyway and undermining the power of the collective is exactly what killed this movement in Croatia.
The movement started with a general spending boycott on fridays (so no money transactions - no stores, bars, gas stations, bank transactions etc), and a week long boycott of three supermarket chains that had the most egregious prices compared to other countries (those chains operate all over Europe, and their prices in other countries are far cheaper for the exact same products - despite lower operational costs in Croatia). After that, we switched to boycotting one chain every week.
The boycott was very effective. On the first friday of the boycott, the state financial department reported a 43% decrease in sales volume in the country. Just think about that for a second. And no - there has not been an increase in spending in the days before or after the boycott. In fact, they were still lower compared to the weeks before and the sales volume decreased in the following week by about 10%.
But like I said, unfortunately it died out over the next 4-5 weeks, with each boycott achieving lower decreases. And it died out exactly because of trolls that spread this defeatist attitude thinking they're so smart for seeing the "real" picture. Laughable.
Of course, the astroturfing has been insane, they really went berserk after the first friday. There's been an insane amount of bots posting comments that this doesn't work, that we should be protesting the government instead (as if holding signs in front of government buildings hurts them more than 50% less money flowing into the state piggy bank), that this hurts the citizens more than the conglomerates, that this will cause them to increase the prices to cover the losses etc etc. Just ridiculous claims all over social media.
And yeah, people got deflated and the movement died out.
Thanks idiots.
I mean, bikes are great for a lot of things and cities should definitely have the infrastructure to support their usage, but let's not pretend that they can easily replace cars in every use case.
Cars are faster, cover long distances which are just infeasible for bikes, are more comfortable, can be used in bad weather, and are needed for people with disabilities. Granted, all of those use cases should be covered by a good public transport system, but that's exactly why cars are considered to be the symbol of freedom - not depending on the bus/train schedules, weather, distance etc.
I get what you mean, and I would agree with you but the last month kind of disillusioned me.
The fact that they managed to spin things like the presidents right hand guy giving the nazi salute on his inauguration day, or Trump blatantly supporting a dictator of the historically biggest US adversary, or him alienating and threatening to attack or annex US allies, or the countless other actions, is just defeating. I mean where the hell is the red line? What would it take for them to say "yes, Trump made a mistake."? They pushed the narrative so far out that they're okay with him aligning with Putin over the EU. I mean he literally said that Putin has gone through a lot with him and praised him while trying to extort Zelensky and screaming at him with the whole world watching. Where does it end?
It's just extremely defeating.
