all of the communities i follow are deathly silent, kinda hard to contribute when you have nothing worthwhile to post and nothing you can comment on

[–] Daelsky 1 points 4 hours ago

Yeah many communities I’m interested in have so little users and even less people who post/comment. Some are inactive for days

I just found out how to comment.

Someone who reads, but does not post or comment. Someone who's here, but doesn't really participate.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 hours ago

Its ok not to participate though. Better be here than reddit.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 hours ago

no because my opinions are not valued anywhere i go. I will be a lurker on the internet until the majority of humanity chooses kindness, open mindedness, empathy. I doubt i will see that happen. Honestly the internet was a mistake.

I used to contribute, but I've mostly stopped even visiting Lemmy because of all the propaganda from places like Lemmy.ml. Totally killed my excitement for it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 hours ago

Propaganda?

I've not seen anything like that since I've been here. What do they push?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 hours ago

0.0 What are you talking about? I don't see that, and I consider myself pretty active...

Ok really dumb question (this was an issue for me with Reddit during the before time as well): I seem to only notice threads that have existed for a while, so I normally see something similar to what I would have said already posted as a comment. Should I be using Lemmy differently, to see younger threads?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 hours ago

You get more engagement on Lemmy than on Reddit, even if you don't comment in the first 3h. Probably due to sorting, probably due to lower numbers, but even the silliest comment will get at least a few reactions.

You can really tell it's made by socialists who hate accumulation and want to give everyone a chance.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 hours ago

Lemmy on its web interface has a sorting option called scaled sorting. Which allows to bring up rising threads that are a few hours old.

Note: not all mobile apps have integrated scaled sorting. So you need to do some investigation.

I’m so much better at commenting than posting. I have nothing interesting to post!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 hours ago

Same, but commenting is also a good way to contribute. Oh, uh, hi! o/ /lurks

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 hours ago

Well, I know this comment isn't much, but I have to start somewhere, and at least now I cannot be accused of being a lurker!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 hours ago

Just deleted my reddit account.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 13 hours ago

I'm doing my part, are you?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 hours ago

Some of us have nothing useful to contribute to society. Please don't shame us.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 hours ago

I don't have a unique opinion to post if the thread isn't early enough. And the communities that I can provide expert opinions are basically deserted.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I have nothing to contribute.

Niche communities are still absent, so most of the time Lemmy is just political discussions and Linux memes.

Not interested in any of those

[–] [email protected] 6 points 12 hours ago

Yeah, I wish there was a more concerted effort to move more communities.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 13 hours ago

[–] [email protected] 7 points 13 hours ago

I posted because of this post
