Figure out funding first.
HPC? Fuck we can't change shit in HPC. We tried a few times... Some sites appear manage it, but tend to forget a few dozen systems.
Fewer and fewer think it is "organized".

I am currently setting up a FreeBSD ZFS file server. Software installs are so fast I thought they failed. (OS installer needs quality of life improvemens.)
Advice for others reading this:
- know the vacation policy.
- do days carry over to next year?
- what happens if you go over. (Sometimes one is fired, othertimes one only ~~looses a day of pay~~ don't get paid for that day.)

Distros try different things, and it is good to be exposed to many of those. It helps to discover the most functional ideas and cross pollinate.
Wait until you try non-linux FOSS OSes...

I tend to buy two at a time. Some are months old, others three years old.
Professionally, I have seen drives over 10 years always on at low utilization without issue. (The data was easily replaceable.)

And height. And speed. Maybe easier if there are zero planes, but not easy.
