I guess I’m the opposite then - I love guns, yet I probably wouldn’t get one even if I could. I definitely wouldn’t carry one. It’s too easy to make hasty, irreversible decisions with a firearm.

Carrying a gun means that every altercation has the potential to become life-threatening. I wouldn’t want to end up in a brawl while armed and risk having my own weapon used against me if I got overpowered. That’s something cops, for example, have to constantly be aware of.

I have a feeling that the "punch the nazies" people who are the loudest online are the ones nowhere to be found when the shit actually hits the fan. The ones who actually would aren't talking about it on social media and especially not on Lemmy.

There's a dedicated community for discussing this exact topic

Reading the news and posting angry messages on social media isn’t fighting. If you’re doing something beyond that, good for you - but the vast majority of so-called "activists" aren’t. They’re just venting anger and spreading it to others while achieving nothing worthwhile.

If my goal were to "change the world," I’d probably live in despair too. But it’s not. Instead, I run a small local business where I help people with their everyday technical challenges. I get to make a tangible difference in people’s lives and see their gratitude firsthand. Life has never felt more meaningful.

It's always going to be a tradeoff. If it's unmoderated then you're going to encounter a lot more spam and off-topic which you have to deal with by yourself but with moderators you're going to get power tripping. With a truly competent AI moderator you could possibly get around this but not with humans.

In my case, I'm already doing the majority of managing what I see on my feed by myself so I doubt I'd see a huge difference were the moderators to dissapear.

I didn't know that averaging 10 messages per day is considered "posting like crazy"

Lets hear your theory then about what that means.

I wouldn't agree with "sticking fingers in my ears and saying it doesn't matter" being a fair representation of what I'm trying to say here.

I would claim that in the case of person's skin color we truly shouldn't care about it any more than we care about the color of their hair or eyes. It's it’s a description of appearance, not a reflection of who they are. If we want to live in a world where this is the case, then my argument is that paying more attention to it is not the way to go. I'm sure the people behind this have good intentions but it's the method I disagree with here.

The only company I’ve ever truly been invested in is the one I’m running myself. I’ve never seen working for someone else as anything more than trading my time for monetary compensation. The only reason I ever cared about a company’s success was to ensure I still had a place to earn a living from.

If it were a small business where I felt valued, then maybe it would be different - but not when we’re talking about a company that employs hundreds and the CEO doesn't even know me by name.

It's genuinely difficult to tell from some of these that it's done with AI.

Finding out that we live in a simulation would change nothing about how I see other people or myself. That concept is perfectly compatible with how I'm living my life right now.

I'll save them the trouble then and out myself here by posting the only other mention of skin color on my entire post history. Clearly I can't stop talking about race.

Concluding that someone is a lesser human because of their skin color seems just as illogical to me as calling someone a racist because they drive a lifted truck. These things are completely unrelated.

Interestingly, your post history shows that you are very interested in skin color yourself.

Feel free to dig thru it and post it here for everyone to see.
