I was reading an article about the UK set to land Europe's first rover on Mars (https://news.uk.cityam.com/story/2318834/content.html), and it set me to thinking about whether a CANZUK alliance/confederation/whatever could have a significant space program of its own.

Australia's current launch site is military. Canada's is a not-yet-operational joint venture of 3 USA-based firms. And New Zealand's is controlled by a firm that is now USA-centric. The 3 UK-based sites are in various stages of readiness. All sites are currently intended for satellites, as opposed to manned missions (with the possible exception of Cornwall); however, that doesn't mean this can't be adjusted down the line.

Launch sites across all 4 countries could work very well for a rapid implementation of constellation satellite systems, which could include anything from improved Internet services, secure GPS services, telcom/media services, defensive monitoring, etc.

If sites are expanded to support manned missions, this could provide some flexibility for return missions, station supply, etc.

This one is behind a paywall, but it is easily bypassed at https://12ft.io/

Moncton would be fun, and is likely the only other option in the Atlantic. Newfoundland could perhaps manage something in St. John's, but travel is always a big issue.

I think we'll see more of a Halifax - Moncton rivalry materialize in League1 Atlantic, with an eventual upgrade to bring the rivalry to the top tier once a club has more solid footing.

The real shame is the continued absence of any side in Quebec. Montreal and Quebec City are necessary additions to the league, and the fact that they aren't top-2 for 2026 remains concerning.

This sounds cool, but it doesn't look like it's intended to ever go to market.

Maybe there will be a pivot with the current political situation state-side, but that doesn't seem to be the purpose of this project.

Still, a project worth rooting for! I just signed up to receive updates straight from their website: https://projectarrow.ca/

Are we just going to copy/paste the rules from Reddit, or are we devising a different way to launch the Model Parliament?

If I see any, I'll be sure to let you know!

[email protected] is actually the 2nd or 3rd oldest city-based community on lemmy.ca . It's not very active, but should definitely be added to this list.

Also, [email protected] would be a good community to add to the soccer category.

For team-specific Canadian-based soccer teams, there's [email protected] of the MLS (US-league with 3 Canadian-based teams). Other MLS sides include Vancouver Whitecaps and CF Montreal, which I don't think have a community created.

None of the 8 Canadian Premier League teams, nor any of the numerous League1 Canada sides have taken steps to establish their communities yet (as far as I know).

Peertube is the Fediverse equivalent. It needs more content, and more instances to host said content, but it's a good start.

For years, public safety organizations have used Twitter as an effective way to share information with the public in real time, Levy said.

And for years, rampant misinformation has spread virally in real time thanks to these same actions. The number of times I've been stuck in some sort of lock-down because of a supposed shooter in the area, that was actually half-way across town, is just more evidence that social media never should have been used for spreading any sort of official warning about situations.

This kind of info should be posted to the official site of the organization, and if it's actually something that people in the area **need ** to know about, sent directly to people's phones (in a manner similar to the Amber Alert system).

Ah. I suspected ESP had wifi buit-in, but I've never used ESP myself.

If the power draw is about the same as a security camera, it could perhaps be plugged into one of the small solar units meant for an external camera.

Now that I know it's wifi, I may just need to get one and see if it'll work with my solar cells. Should be a fun experiment!

Thanks for answering my questions!

The kids doesn't mention any wifi/zigbee/z-wave capabilities, which would mean it would need to be connected to your HA unit with a cord of some sort (it references a USB cable on the page). That's a hardwire connection (as opposed to a wireless connection).
