Couldn't agree more! That these guys only ever recorded the one studio album is a goddamn tragedy!

New my ass! It started with Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich in the 90s, if not even earlier!

Nope. It's DEFINITELY happening. It's just the sort of thing that's nearly impossible to predict the exact timeline of. It could be as soon as a year from now and it could be in fifty.

Either way, the problem is real and worsening NOW, which is the second best time to do something about it.

I don't know, probably?

I've just seen enough Alien movies and other pop culture references to be wary of anything combining faces and hugging 😉

Nope. As I clarified in my edit, the exact timeline from the headline is usually wrong and never the point.

I'd agree if it was just the oppressive system and the power and wealth of those benefitting the most from it collapsing with no ripple effects, but the most vulnerable groups of people will take the brunt of the initial damage long before the billionaires feel it.

A shitload of innocent people are going to die from the devastation wrought by a few billionaires and the politicians they own. Even more so than today.

And the trend has only accelerated since. Especially now that the fascists are implementing Project 2025 with frantic haste.

Just like with climate change, the fact that they hardly ever get the timeframe stated in the headlines right doesn't mean that the emergency isn't real.

Napoleon was actually about average height for the time. The shortness thing was just British (?) war propaganda to, for lack of a less on the nose term, belittle him in the public consciousness.

Barron IS still freakishly tall, though. He should either stop doing that or become really good at basketball or volleyball.

I love how it's the 90s of at least two different centuries 😄

Released near the end of the Reagan presidency, almost every word of the lyrics are even more true today. Only exception is Pat Robertson (far too recently) dying.

Facebook is banning posts that mention various Linux-related topics, sites, or groups. Some users may also see their accounts locked or limited when posting Linux topics. Major open-source operating system news, reviews, and discussion site DistroWatch is at the center of the controversy, as it seems to be the first to have noticed that Facebook's Community Standards had blackballed it.

[...]

DistroWatch says that the Facebook ban took effect on January 19. Readers have reported difficulty posting links to the site on this social media platform. Moreover, some have told DistroWatch that their Facebook accounts have been locked or limited after sharing posts mentioning Linux topics.

If you're wondering if there might be something specific to DistroWatch.com, something on the site that the owners/operators perhaps don't even know about, for example, then it seems pretty safe to rule out such a possibility. Reports show that "multiple groups associated with Linux and Linux discussions have either been shut down or had many of their posts removed." However, we tested a few other Facebook posts with mentions of Linux, and they didn't get blocked immediately.

In case anyone wonders: I took this screenshot from NewPipe a couple minutes ago and Aerosmith were inducted into said hall in 2001

I mean, what better name for a n'er-do-well with a heart (and possibly other parts of his anatomy) of gold? 😁

Text for readability:

So far, Americans using RedNote have said they don't care if China has access to their data. Viral videos on TikTok in recent days have shown Americans jokingly saying they will miss their personal "Chinese spy," while others say they are purposefully giving RedNote access to their data in a show of protest against the wishes of the U.S. government.

"This also highlights the fact that people are thirsty for platforms that aren't controlled by the same few oligarchs," Quintin said. "People will happily jump to another platform even if it presents new, unknown risks."
