Jawbone headsets used to be like that. When they were still in business. They made good headsets, but introduced this feature as well to change certain settings.

Apparently that wasn't taught in business schools.

Also, the D stands for diode, which is a one-way passage for electricity, some rectifiers may use diodes in their circuitry. So another way to cut costs is to not rectify completely or well.

This seems to happen anywhere sea water reaches into narrowing areas. Volume vs area.

Bay of Fundy also has large tidal differences. Hike out on Cape Split and you can watch them happen. Or dine above the Reversing Falls in St. John, NB at the right time.
