They have him over a barrel I fear.

Unlike many other countries, in particular ones in Europe, there are no privacy or data protection laws restricting how Americans’ private information can be bought or sold.

The real agenda is that “urban elites” want to enforce an “authoritarian project” on Europe, he said. Calling Twitter “essential to free speech and true democracy,” Bay pointed out that censoring the platform is an attempt to “steal democracy from the people” and to “promote political correctness and to spread [the EU’s] woke propaganda.”

“Despite claiming to defend fundamental rights, the EU is actually restricting freedom of speech and of thought, which are the fundamentals of a real democracy. … This liberticide tendency is aggravating and extremely worrying,” Bay said.

Which country are you from?

This is the apex of political corruption. These people should be formally barred from holding any position in the American government ever again. But their friends and cronies are still in power, so expect them to be given awards instead.

I was so brainwashed that I forgot, as many people do, that secrets do not belong to governments. That information belongs to us. Governments rule by our consent. If they want to keep secrets, they must have our permission to do so. And they never have the right to keep crimes secret.

A literal ministry of truth.

Politicians are pushing to put a ban your ability to have private messages.

Governments want a backdoor to all of your communications.

Our breakdown of this form of an attack on speech dates back to the 1990s and the early days of the internet…

This system, they contend, was not merely a passive conduit but was instrumental in relaying information that was ultimately suppressed by social media outlets. Astonishingly, CIS is alleged to have revealed that a striking 61% of cases funneled through this pipeline were either extinguished or labeled as misinformation.

The Republican inquisitors are zeroing in on whether the US government’s muscle was surreptitiously flexed to pressure social media platforms into submission. This, they imply, may have been a gambit to manipulate the information landscape during a politically charged season.

“Trying to shut down protesters’ use of Facebook is yet another example of the way that freedom of public assembly in NSW is being attacked by successive governments,”

It is crucial to ensure that in our pursuit of technological advances, we do not inadvertently sacrifice the very privacy and security that we seek to protect.

But the devices — equipped with cameras, microphones and, in some cases, facial recognition technology — are often poorly secured by their manufacturers compared to computers or smartphones, the FBI warned last week. That opens up the technology to cybercriminals who can exploit the vulnerability to access home routers, TechCrunch reported.

"Beyond the risk that your TV manufacturer and app developers may be listening and watching you, that television can also be a gateway for hackers to come into your home," read a warning from the government bureau released just before the Black Friday holiday shopping weekend.

“Last night in my DC residence, the television turned on by itself and the screen showed someone’s laptop trying to connect to the TV."

The alleged TV spying attempt on Greene is reminiscent of what happened to then CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson during the Obama administration when the home computers she used for work had intrusions detected that were traced back to the federal government. Attkisson had been aggressively reporting on the Obama administration including the Fast and Furious “gun walking” scandal and the deadly 2012 terrorist attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya.

Or it turns into a big tech/big media cartel that shuts out smaller players

Your account is located on another instance.

The best I can do is ban your account from our instance, which I have done.

If you ever want it unbanned, just let me know and I will for so.

In life, it is often much easier to get agreement that somebody has been wronged and/or other people have acted badly.

But agreement to the solution imposed is much harder, because often imposed solutions have negatives as well as positives.

Exploding Heads has never defederated lemmygrad. We invite diverse opinions, discussion, and debate.

I want to speak up in defense of the Lemmy developers.

I run an instance that is probably the polar opposite of Lemmy.ml.

Yes Lemmy.ml blocked us from federating, but when it comes to getting a Lemmy instance up and running successfully, 99.99% of the time the developers have been both helpful and generous with their time.

Give them a break. They have created some great open source software that can serve as a foundation of an exciting future.

I think the thing to stop this happening is for the user to own the identity they use on Lemmy - so if you do not like what gas happened on the instance you signed up on, you can easily move to another instance or social media.

Lemmy is open source. Lots of people run instances, so there are a lot of choices.

That is why I am supportive of something like self-soverign I'd

In a sane world, you would hope this was Russian propaganda, but sadly America today is ruled by petty tyrants with thin skins.

Here is a link to an Intercept article that actually cites the Pentagon bid documents.
