I actually like e-ink for some apps. Unfortunately, on my device, dark mode UI doesn't do as good a job as I would like (serious ghosting is a problem even when setting the auto refresh to a much higher rate). I do miss qwerty keyboards but I think I would rather have a device like this with a fold out/slide out keyboard (I would buy a sidekick with android and a larger screen tomorrow if they offered it, and if they offered it with wink, I'd still seriously consider it with some reservations).

I've seen devices that have both an e-ink display and an OLED display and I like the idea but the design is often just not what I'm looking for.

But writing and note apps, RSS apps and note taking apps are really really good on e-ink. I have even used Lemmy (boost) on an e-ink device and it's not the greatest experience but I do like it quite a lot. Music and podcasts work so long as you're not using the animations in those apps. And I really like using the web browser, but mostly I think that's down to the way I browse the web.

My main problem is that niche devices like this don't have the same ROM support and configurability that more well known phone brands and models have.

To be fair, it also just launched on steam.

Yeah I have udm14.com set as a custom search engine. So I don't use it for search. It's usually for things like triggering a camera or timer or similar for stuff at work where I might need to use a tripod, or for routines at home (smart lighting and blinds and the TV for my kid). I've been looking into swapping to home assistant but something's I haven't found solutions for yet.

They "remind me" every time I use assistant on my phone with an on screen message. But that's about it and though I find it annoying I don't feel forced.

If you mean that it charges at a slower rate as it approaches 100% that's by design. It's intended to protect the battery. It will fast charge a certain percentage and then slow charge the last percent in order to not overcharge/overheat the battery.

I didn't realize it was a book. Guess I'll be searching that out.

They also already rolled back Biden admin's order for AI protections. So they don't even have the benefit of those. There's supposedly a Trump admin AI order now in place but it doesn't have the same scope at all. So Altman and pals may just be SOL. There's no regulatory body to tell except the courts and China literally doesn't care about those.

I don't know if I'd considered it a board game, but the Forbidden Island game (and the others like it) spring to mind. The idea is that you and the other players have to work together to gather everything you need including the treasure you came for before the island you're on sinks into the ocean.

It's fun working together and I always thought it did a good job of incentivising that.

I love that all these people seem to think that Tik Tok's stay of execution isn't going to lead to any changes. It's even more humorous to me that they seem to think Trump is doing anything to save it. He has an ulterior motive and it's not going to be good for the platform. Suppressing information about Tik Tok censorship and or Trump's involvement in its sale to a different company is silly.

It would be awesome if they did face consequences so I didn't have to keep my credit locked while I go through the process of getting a new SSN. This is getting ridiculous. They notified me by mail like a week ago that my data is in this breach too. This really needs to stop happening.

Sometimes parents look back on things and realize that it's too little too late. My mother doesn't like the relationship I have with her (I'm not zero contact but I only call when I'm feeling up to it and that can take months). I was physically abused as a kid on top of having ADHD (then ADD), and I was diagnosed but never medicated.

My youngest brother has Autism and my parents went above and beyond to get him everything he needed by my sister and I (both with ADHD) basically got nothing.

It's exhausting to think about what ifs. At this point in this time I have received an apology (though not for the things I remember, and more for the things she regrets which do not necessarily align). I think a lot of her regret is based on our relationship now and how she wishes it could be.

But I look at it like this. I'm just living in the world, doing my best to survive and take care of myself. That's something I have been doing since I was a child. I continue to do that because I don't know any other way. I do not have the energy to give to her for her regret. I acknowledge it. I accept the apology. But I gave up being angry about it. I just do not have the energy for it.

We can't change how we grew up. It's better to acknowledge the sentiment and move on. At least, I think so. Try not to tie up too much of yourself in what could have been. Get to know and accept the you that is in the here and now. You'll make your own way. You got this far.

I hate it. But I can understand why people would want it. It often brakes when it feels I'm not braking enough etc but I'm keeping track of what's in front and behind me and I would prefer that it didn't.

Sweeping Cyber Security Order (www.theregister.com)
submitted 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

The sweeping directive, signed Thursday, covers a range of topics including securing federal communications networks against foreign snoops, issuing tougher sanctions for ransomware gangs, requiring software providers to develop more secure products, and using AI to boost America's cyber defense capabilities, among others.

"The uBlock Origin Lite add-on was also accused of collecting user data and running afoul of privacy concerns, which is one of the big reasons why people switch over to the Firefox browser in the first place. Hill [the developer] responded: “It takes only a few seconds for anyone who has even basic understanding of JavaScript to see the raised issues make no sense.”"

Instead of blocking them, this extension speeds them up to x16 and also mutes the ad. Experiencing a 30 second ad in 2 seconds is pretty funny. And it works on Edge and Chrome.
