For me there is often a problem that causes to not be able to sleep, and I'll try to solve that. Like being hungry, thirsty, radiator too warm, radiator not warm enough, I have some energy I need to get out, need to close the window, need to open the window. If nothing helps I get out of bed for a while and this makes me more tired after some time. I try to avoid scrolling because it just makes the time fly by without changing the circumstances or making me sleepy.

It's really hard to make predictions, but one thing I am certain about is that the pervasiveness of endless entertainment and distractions, in combination with the ease of outsourcing any mental effort to LLMs, will have significant effects on people's cognitive performance. Especially for young people who have the misfortune of never knowing a world without these things.
Another thing is climate change. At least for those of us living in the west, climate change is still limited to concerning news you read, a bit more heat in the summer, and a few more natural disasters than usual. There are effects, but we're not really affected yet. In 10 years, our lives will be significantly affected by the increasing heat and even more natural disasters. In other parts of the world, these things are already happening and they will be significantly worse in 10 years.
True. Yesterday I saw a gen alpha kid watching YT on his phone on one hand while he was walking his dog with the other. In an urban area with some traffic and occasional cyclists.
It makes a lot of sense. Lying and manipulation are done specifically to achieve goals. A defining characteristic of morals is that you're supposed to follow them even if it's neutral or disadvantageous for you. If someone follows "morals" to achieve a personal goal, they're not actually following morals, they're just acting in a way that incidentally looks moral.
Damn, she's grown quickly!
I have no idea. For me it's a "you recognize it when you see it" kinda thing. Normally I'm in favor of just measuring things with a clearly defined test or benchmark, but it is in the nature of large neural networks that they can be great at scoring on any desired benchmark while failing to be good at the underlying ability that the benchmark was supposed to test (overfitting). I know this sounds like a lazy answer, but it's a very difficult question to define something based around generalizing and reacting to new challenges.
But whether LLMs do have "actual intelligence" or not was not my point. You can definitely make a case for claiming they do, even though I would disagree with that. My point was that calling them AIs instead of LLMs bypasses the entire discussion on their alleged intelligence as if it wasn't up for debate. Which is misleading, especially to the general public.
Yes, I modified a copy pasta to make it fit the context. It's not new though, just a bit unknown.
It's true that the word has always been used loosely, but there was no issue with it because nobody believed what was called AI to have actual intelligence. Now this is no longer the case, and so it becomes important to be more clear with our words.
I'm active in this guys' matrix group for sigma males. I love it there as an eccentric, dominant and mysterious introvert. I’ve been described as an alpha a few times (even by my wife) but I never felt 100% comfortable with the term. The big difference is that I’m a loner in my free time. Some of my biggest hobbies are reading, listening to podcasts and audiobooks. Constantly learning and improving.
I don’t care about socializing with people after work etc. I always have conflicts with alphas (who underestimate or feel threatened by me) and I MUST shut them down and put them in their places. I get a great sense of satisfaction from this. Lol But it’s also exhausting and takes the fun out of socializing. Kind of like swatting gnats. I’d rather contemplate the universe or human consciousness.
A lot of alphas seem insecure and have a constant need for constant validation which I find incredibly weak and pathetic.
At work I’m all business and I want to lead and take control of everything. However, I am good at playing the supporting role and being a team player. I always want to help people maximize their potential and brighten their day with humor. Women seem to love me even though I don’t put any effort into it. I’m just 100% real, humorous and of course mysterious!
Enough self absorbed bullshit. (My ego takes over at times)
I don’t know many other guys exactly like myself. I’m excited to compare notes with you all. Whereas alphas seem to compete against each other(often in the form of pissing contests), we sigmas seem to be kindred spirits. Even though we are lone wolves, it’s good to sometimes feel like we aren’t alone. Cheers mates.
I think we should start by not following this marketing speak. The sentence "AI isn't intelligent" makes no sense. What we mean is "LLMs aren't intelligent".
Yes, that's exactly what I meant.
Is there something like this but with edits of JD Vance?
